More Spring Training Thoughts

We've got the spring training meetup poll going over there on the right. With very few precincts reporting, so far it looks like folks want to get together in the desert sooner (Feb 29 - Mar 2, or Mar 7 - 9) rather than later (Mar 14 - 16, or Mar 21 - 23). Typically I've gone toward the end, when big leaguers see most of the action, but it might be interesting to watch more of the kids for a change. Anyway, if you have any interest in attending spring training as a group, please participate in the poll and/or leave comments so we can start making plans. About halfway down the page of a recent Baseball Prospectus chat with Chris Kahrl there is an item that caught my attention. Okay, it caught Charlie Wilmoth's attention and Charlie's comment caught mine. The question has to do with Sean Burroughs and whether he might be a candidate for a deal to the Pirates for, say, Jason Kendall. It's an idea that certainly should hold considerable appeal for Bucs fans. Unfortunately, for a trade to work, unless there is someone asleep at the wheel, it helps if it benefits (or at least gives the appearance of benefiting) both parties. I don't know about you, but the lack of baseball books is bringing me down. I'm used to having my STATS trifecta by now, but this year there's nothing. Ah well. Buddy Carlyle Our old (well, not that old -- he's only 25) friend is back in the USA: There's no place like home for Buddy Carlyle (Bellevue Leader). Carlyle couldn't have picked a better team with which to resurrect his career than the Royals, who are pretty desperate for pitching. I've long thought he had a future in the big leagues, and it's good to see him get another shot. Oliver Perez Guess who was activated for the Mexican Pacific League playoffs?
