Friday links: Tom Krasovic at the U-T provides a brief overview of "Sandyball" (h/t LynchMob) -- the Padres' organizational philosophy under CEO Sandy Alderson: The club has made a habit of acquiring major leaguers who can be free agents at season's end, or signing veterans to one-year contracts. More to the point, the Padres fish those waters year-round. Alderson has said such players can be extra motivated by the prospect of imminent free agency. Wait, didn't we already do a link post this week? Marketing spin: Two for the price of one. Yeah, that's it... Padres build top bullpen through smart shopping (SI.com, via Brett in the comments). Tom Verducci has noticed what we've long known: that Kevin Towers has a gift for acquiring cheap arms. It's weird that Verducci doesn't dismiss the phenomenon as a function of Petco Park. Isn't that pretty much a requirement these days?
