I finally made it to a SABR convention, and was it ever worth the wait. This year’s convention took place in Long Beach, which meant that I could attend with relative ease (having to catch a plane is usually a deal-breaker for me, but a two-hour drive is no problem).

Tuesday Links (10 May 11)
Seems I’ve fallen behind in my links. Some of these are a little old and might taste funny, but they won’t make you sick or anything…
One-Hit Wonders: John Urrea to Jaret Wright
This is Part 13 of a 13-part series examining the 65 men who have collected exactly one hit as a member of the San Diego Padres. Stuff I Learned at SABR Day in San Diego
I’ve been a SABR member for a few years but never made it to a meeting until this past weekend. When I wondered aloud on Twitter what took me so long, one person quipped, “Because they’re at 9 a.m. on a Saturday.” Yeah, that might have something to do with it. Now that I’ve been, [...]

The event is at Petco Park and starts at 9 a.m. Here’s the full list of speakers: Jason McLeod (Vice President, Assistant General Manager, San Diego Padres) John Ingham — “Clemente, Wills and Harry the Hat: The 1967 Pirates” David Nuffer [...]

Gene Tenace and [...]

Friday. Links. Friday Links. Get it? Three thoughts (Inside the Padres). Quoth Grady Fuson, as related by Tom Krasovic: “I told Will Venable: ‘You’re going to end up being a better big leaguer than you were a minor leaguer. I hardly every say that (about a player), but I believe it. I do.” Yeah, I’ve [...]
