Padres vs Marlins 12:35 p.m. PT DIRECTV 726 (Fish feed) AM 1090, FM 105.7, XM 186 MLB, B-R Fun game Tuesday night. Nice to see Scott Hairston finally get on track -- two doubles, a homer, and an out to the wall in left-center works for me. Chip Ambres, Brian Myrow, and Joe Thatcher all were recalled to the big club before the game. Ambres got the start in right, singling and walking twice in his Padres debut. Myrow knocked his first big-league homer in the seventh while pinch hitting for starter Randy Wolf. Padres Farm Report (21 Jun 08)

Fun win Friday night. A buddy of mine scored us some sweet seats in the Toyota Terrace for the excellent price of free. Among other things we got to see Greg Maddux pitch a gem and Chase Headley knock his first homer in San Diego. My wife and I particularly enjoyed watching Headley and Khalil Greene homer, as well as watching Paul McAnulty battle in the eighth to work a walk against Detroit's Joel Zumaya and then fall over the fence along the right-field foul line to make a game-ending catch. We saw all three of those players when they were at Lake Elsinore (not at the same time), and it's cool to see them now contributing at the big-league level. The only ...

That was satisfying. We took the in-laws out to the ballgame -- sprung for Toyota Terrace seats, first time this year. They picked a good time to visit. Mom is from the old country, but I was heartened to see that she chose to root for the home team rather than Hiroki Kuroda. She digs the long ball. Jake Peavy looked sharp. He was efficient with his pitches (12 per inning) and made a few terrific defensive plays. Maybe he paid extra close attention to Greg Maddux while he was on the disabled list. Brian Giles should have one more hit to his credit this season. Not that it affected the outcome, but Alfredo Amezaga absolutely didn't catch Giles' soft liner in the top of the eighth. Also, what a strange game for Paul McAnulty: hit by a pitch, thrown out trying to advance on a popup to third base, lost his glove while chasing down a foul fly ball to left, almost hit in the on-deck circle by a drive off the bat of Josh Bard... None More Epic

I'm late to the party -- blame a lack of sleep and previously scheduled interview (Jim returned the favor and interviewed me at AZ Snakepit) -- but here are some observations from Thursday's epic 22-inning battle with the Rockies: Jake Peavy dominated. Yeah, the game went another 14 innings after Peavy departed, but he was brilliant. Trevor Hoffman can thank Petco Park for killing two thunderous fly balls and keeping the game alive in the ninth.
