Sportswrappin’

As I've mentioned, Derek Togerson was kind enough to have me on as a guest of NBC 7/39's "SportsWrap" this past Sunday evening. Our segment was the Padres preview, so there wasn't really an opportunity to pimp the book. Still, we had a great time talking baseball. Some highlights: I cited the continued development of Chase Headley as the most exciting item of the spring and said that we'd see him at some point during the season, but that the left field job probably was Scott Hairston's for now (we taped this on March 15). I also noted that the Padres wouldn't bring Headley up as a stopgap solution ...

Reminder to folks here in San Diego: I'll be on "SportsWrap" this Sunday evening at 11:35 p.m. PT. Tune to NBC 7/39 for your chance to see a real-live baseball dork on television. To the links... Bill Center at the U-T takes a look at roster possibilities. According to this, Glendon Rusch will be in the bullpen and Wil Ledezma (who is out of options) likely will be on the staff in some capacity. In related news, Jim Edmonds is optimistic hopeful he'll be ready for Opening Day. Tom Krasovic at the U-T ...

I've been meaning to thank everyone for submitting such great links for these every week. Not to sound all "big league" or whatever, but it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to keep track of the conversations taking place out there in the ether. So to those of you who drop links (or any comments, really) into the daily discussion, I offer a hearty thanks. Now that I've kissed your collective backside, I'm going to hit you up for more money. One project I've been working on this winter is the Hardball Times Season Preview 2008, and it's almost here. Why do you care? Read these ...

OBG08: Wolf, Prior, and Others

OBG08: Le Menu Josh Bard/Michael Barrett Adrian Gonzalez Tadahito Iguchi Kevin Kouzmanoff Khalil Greene Scott Hairston Chase Headley Jim Edmonds Brian Giles Jake Peavy Chris Young Greg Maddux As a reminder, we're looking for your individual best guess on how these players will perform in 2008. Attempting to compensate for other guesses that you don't agree with defeats the purpose of the exercise. Okay, enough with the lecture. Now we get to the scary part of the rotation. I've got projections here for Randy Wolf, Mark Prior, and Clay Hensley. If you want to throw something out there for, say, Shawn Estes, Justin Germano, Enrique Gonzalez, or Glendon Rusch, go right ahead. Eric Nolte? Sure, why not. Randy Wolf Wolf is basically a ...

Friday Links (18 Jan 08)

Listening to Jeff Buckley, Live at Olympia (thanks, Didi!). That and a pot of coffee should keep me going for a while. To the links (sit down, we've got a few)... This is old, but it bears mentioning. Mike Cameron has signed with the Brewers (hat tip to Marsh in the comments). As I mentioned at Knuckle Curve, I think Cameron and his camp badly misread the market. I've heard some sentiment that the Padres should have signed him at the price (1 year, $7M) that Milwaukee ended up paying him, but I doubt that this option was available before the Jim Edmonds trade. Great pickup for ...
