I got my first look at the 2011 Lake Elsinore Storm last weekend. They lost to Stockton, 9-7, in extra innings. Right-hander Jerry Sullivan started and had a rough night. More specifically, he had a rough first inning, surrendering four runs before his team even had a chance to bat. He fooled nobody.
Now is as good a time as any to revisit our preseason Top 20 prospect list. If you’ve been following along at all, it will come as no surprise that the hitters are way ahead of the pitchers. Given the current state of the Padres offense, that’s not necessarily a bad thing…
I hate prospect lists because they imply a level of certainty that doesn’t exist. That said, the process of creating such a list helps clarify where an organization’s strengths and weaknesses lie. Besides, other people love them and I am nothing if not a man of the people.
