September 14, 1969, Los Angeles: Dodgers 3, Padres 1 (box score) Let's get the one Padre highlight out of the way. Ollie Brown knocked a solo homer with two out in the ninth to ruin Don Sutton's shutout bid. Sutton was in complete control all game. He went the distance, scattering three singles in addition to Brown's home run, and striking out nine. The Dodgers scored one run in the second and two more in the fourth. Jim Lefebvre drove in all three runs on a double and a two-run homer off Clay Kirby, who took the loss and saw his record fall to 5-19.

September 6, 1969, San Diego: Padres 3, Dodgers 1 (box score) Clay Kirby and Don Sutton hooked up in the third of a four-game series at San Diego Stadium. Kirby, for reasons I cannot find, exited early, with Tommie Sisk taking over in the second. The game remained scoreless, with neither team threatening at all, until the bottom of the sixth. Then, after Sisk struck out to start the inning, Jose Arcia and Roberto Pena singled. Ollie Brown followed with a fly ball to center that scored Arcia, and Al Ferrara knocked a double that brought home Pena to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. Los Angeles put ...

June 27, 1969, San Diego: Padres 5, Dodgers 0 (box score) After failing to score in four of their previous five games, the Padres returned home to face the Dodgers and wasted no time in getting the party started. With right-hander Don Sutton on the mound, Walt Hriniak drew a one-out walk in the first. Ollie Brown singled, and Al Ferrara followed with a three-run homer to left to give the Padres an early lead. San Diego added two insurance runs in the fifth on a solo home run by John Sipin and a two-out double off the bat of Ed Spiezio that scored Brown. Five runs were ...

1969: Dodgers Pound Padres in Finale

June 18, 1969, Los Angeles: Dodgers 10, Padres 1 (box score) A day after being outscored, 18-3, in a doubleheader at Dodger Stadium, the Padres looked to salvage a split of the four-game series against their neighbors to the north. The Dodgers, it seems, had other ideas. Los Angeles struck early and often against southpaw Johnny Podres. In the bottom of the first, with Manny Mota on, Wes Parker launched a homer to left against the former Dodger. In the third inning, the home team scored three more runs, knocking Podres out of the game in the process. The Dodgers had extended their lead to 5-0, and with the ...
