Let’s start the rumor mill - Chase is coming to SD as the new 3b and Kouz is on his way out in a trade for a centerfielder…
To make it more interesting, he’s going to Milwaukee and Cameron is coming back…

Guessing that last night killed ANY talk of moving Barrett this season…or CY…or really any starting pitching.

#2@Sean Callahan: A quick note, before the year the Padres said they planned to play Headley at 3b at least once a week when he got more comfortable in the OF.
However the big need on the team is a CF, and Hunter is probably at least two years away. If the team did deal Kouz they could put Headley in at 3b and maybe open a spot in LF for Chad Huffman in San Antonio, who is probably the player of the year right now in the organization.

I can’t understand why an injury to CY would have any effect on dealing Maddux and/or Wolf.
Let’s face facts-winning 75 games is worse then winning 60.
I’d rather have the #1 pick in the draft and the 10+ new prospects they can get for Wolf, Maddux, Iguchi etc al.

#6@Mark Ase: I don’t completely disagree, but I think that with Peavy AND CY down, you can’t expect the Pads to trade Wolf and Maddux, potentially leaving a rotation of Estes, Germano, Ledezma, and a bag of doughnuts.
I know, CY will probably be back soon, but I really worry about his ability to stay injury free the rest of the season. I know when this type of injury happened to my pitcher (he ended up in the ICU for 3 days), it had an effect on everyone. The next pitcher (me) was accused of flinching everytime someone swung. The next time he came out to pitch (1 year later) he was jerky and jumpy. CY is a pro, but he is also human. With his history of back problems, I would hate to see him jerky and jumpy on the mound when he returns.
Am I overthinking this?

#7@Coronado Mike: I think you’re right on. I would be stunned if we’re able to make many of the moves we hypothesized yesterday. One of Maddux or Wolf will probably go, but I’d be surprised if they both did.
Kouz is probably still trade-bait, but this effectively takes Barrett off the table.

#6@Mark Ase: Completely agree. It’s not like the fans are in love with this edition of the Padres. There would probably be a lot of ugly starts by the likes of Germano, Estes, and Geer, but better that than taking the easy way out.
#4@John Conniff: I don’t really believe in Venable as a CF, but we may as well see him there in the majors this year. I would definitely move Kouz in the right deal, but like a lot of people I wouldn’t have put Headley in LF anyway.

#10@Tom Waits: Supposedly Venable has played well there in Portland, but he was injured when I was out there. After seeing him attempt to play there in San Antonio he would have really have to improved. Also I can’t see him making the throws, especially in a park like PETCO, to be effective.
I would move Kouz too. The big reason for keeping him over Headley at 3b is the power that he would offer - and a .381 slugging percentage to me isn’t reason enough.

I was at the Beavers’ game yesterday, and they played through several innings of constant rain. Most of the offense came during the 4th and 5th when the rain was worst. The defense was having a rough time getting to balls and the pitchers were doing what they could to throw strikes. I’ve never seen more runs walked in at a single game.
Not to detract from the offensive show, but just a little context to put it in perspective. Headley’s homer was a nice opposite field shot, but wouldn’t have gotten out of the park at Petco…although with the rain coming down as hard as it was, who knows?
@#10: I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Venable called up at some point, one thing the Padres have is AAAA talent.
