    Geoff,

Just voted. Where do I get my lapel sticker?

But this is a good time to say that I appreciate very much what you do. It’s a great site. I look forward to reading it. You and the folks who stop by Ducksnorts provide me more thorough and far more intelligent information, analysis, and argument about the Padres than I find in any mainstream media source. And it often comes with a healthy dose of humor, too.

Thanks again to you and to all the Snortees.

  2. Geoff Young Says:

Backatcha, dprat. I couldn’t do it without y’all.

  3. Didi Says:

Great job on the blog, Geoff. This is my source of all things Padres.

Come on, people. There has got to be more than 9 people out there reading this site.
Let’s vote more. Can we stuff the ballot?

    One can try.

  4. Nick G. Says:

I plan to vote as many times as it will let me. Voted once at work, will vote at home.

Maybe I’ll get a few guys at work to vote, too.

  5. LynchMob Says:

Jay Jaffe @ Baseball Prospectus was quoted as saying this …

“Bowden fleeced Towers in the Lawrence/Castilla deal
Daniels fleeced Bowden in the Soriano/Wilkerson deal
Towers fleeced Daniels in the Young/Eaton deal

    The circle is complete.”
    :-)

  6. Peter Friberg Says:

Lynch, I tried complaining about Jaffe, everything I wrote sounded like I was whining.

I like BOTH deals. A LOT!

(Not that any of you do or should care what I think.)

  7. Didi Says:

Gosh, I wish I can read this:

Anybody knows how? Looks funny with the 1B Dodgers debacle.

  8. jesse Says:

Angels just traded Finley to SF for Edgardo Alfonso. Think the Pads have any interest in an overpaid second baseman like Alfonso for an overpaid firstbaseman like Klesko?

  9. Padre Mike Says:

Stuffing away I go (the ballot box) and I don’t mean xmas dinner. Goff, you do a really good job for someone not getting paid, maybe that is part of it. Your better then the guys who do and you don’t have half the access. Must be love, must be a passion. Great work.

Frankly, I have no idea what the Pads are doing. The one thing I like it the attitude of SandyTowers, even though we won the division, they are trading like we are the .500 team we were. Would have been easy to rest on an NL West Pennant, but not ST.

Anybody know the progress of moving in the fenses?

  10. PM Says:

Now if we could just move Klesko…Santa would have delivered the coup da ta. Pardon my france.

  11. Geoff Young Says:

Thanks, PM, for the kind words. FOXSports.com is reporting that Brazelton will re-sign tomorrow, and that the Pads are also bringing on INF Mark Bellhorn and RHP Brian Sikorski:

    Sikorski’s numbers in Japan:

I can’t find any sources that corroborate the Bellhorn story, but here’s something on Sikorski from The Japan Times:

Will keep an eye on this…

  12. PM Says:

whoa, whata? My head is spinning and its not the eggnog. Despite your best efforts to sort it all out, Goff, I still not sure who plays for the Padres these days except our three studs Pev, Giles, and Klesko.

  13. Tom Says:

PM, was that Klesko comment a joke? Right now it doesn’t look like he will play anywhere.

Bellhorn is potentially a great pickup as he’s had good even years and horrendous odd years since 2002. Hopefully this will continue. Sikorski had good stats in Japan (and he designs great helocopters) and relievers are always up and down so it may work out.

Towers has certainly been busy the last week or so, maybe he can make one more high-profile move to fill their last hole — maybe Bengie Molina?

  14. Leucadia Chris Says:

Bellhorn is a “Moneyball” favorite. That signing has Sandy Alderson written all over it.

The Bellhorn-Hill-Barfield competition should be a lot more interesting than the overhyped Ordonez-Vazquez-Greene SS battle of Spring Training 2004.

  15. Peter Friberg Says:

I think 2B is Bellhorn’s to lose, but I think he will lose it in July to Barfield.

Paul R. and I talked extensively today, I would not be surprised to see Klesko headed to the AL (Boston?) in an attempt to revive his career.

  16. Nick G. Says:

Bellhorn — yuck. The guy was so awful last year. He has some terrible ABs, and strikes out wayyyy too much for someone who’s not a power hitter.

  17. Pat Says:

Yeah, but K’s don’t scare “Moneyball” or “Sabremetric” guys. They don’t think they’re any worse, maybe better, than any other sort of out, and Bellhorn gets on base even if he does K a lot. Personally, I’d rather just see what Barfield can do, but I guess it’s prudent to have some other options.

  18. Nick G. Says:

I’d rather see Barfield, too. Maybe it’ll be like a Rey Ordonez/Khalil Greene situation.

Man, the more I think about it — ugh. Bellhorn is just really brutal.

  19. Pat Says:

Come on people. We may never catch Mets Blog or Bat Girl, but we can beat out some of the other blogs. Get out the vote!

  20. Pat Says:

Good call, Nick. It would be great to see Barfield come into this spring and just claim the job beyond a shadow of a doubt. It was awesome to see how Khalil did so to such an extent Ordonez walked out of camp!
