Sorry ’bout the extreme lameness of that title. Hard to keep coming up with new ones that don’t stink. Anyway, here ya go…
- Superscout might join front office of Padres (U-T). Local product Grady Fuson (Kearny High/Mesa College) may be headed back to SoCal. Among Fuson’s draft choices during his seven years as the Oakland A’s director of scouting: Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Eric Chavez, Bobby Crosby, Mark Bellhorn, and Jeremy Bonderman. Uh-huh, that’ll work.
- Padres sign two more Australians (Scout.com). The newcomers are right-hander Riki Paewai and catcher Clinton Naylor. According to this article, Paewai turns 19 next month and throws in the low 90s. As for Naylor, he won’t make his North American debut till 2006 “due to school commitments.”
- Padres, Fick close to minor league deal (Yahoo!). Veteran first baseman went 2 for 12 with the Friars last year. Deal would be worth $450k + $200k in incentives if he’s added to the big-league roster. Here’s hoping Tagg Bozied, Jon Knott, Xavier Nady, Corey Smith, and Mark Sweeney will keep that from happening.
