Ducksnorts Book Excerpt: Jake and the Question Marks

The following excerpt is taken from the upcoming Ducksnorts book, tentatively scheduled for February 2007 publication, and provides a glimpse into the uncertainties surrounding the starting rotation headed into 2006 and how some of those were resolved. Park quickly joined Williams in the rotation, making his first start in Atlanta on April 14 after two relief appearances. Apparently whatever mojo Park had found during the WBC remained with him in San Diego, as he compiled a 4.32 ERA over 15 starts through June (it was actually as low as 3.27 in the middle of May). Ducksnorts Book Excerpt: Who’s Behind the Plate?

With no World Series game today and me wandering aimlessly around the central California coast, I thought now might be a good time to present the first glimpse of the upcoming Ducksnorts book. This excerpt takes a look back at the catching situation headed into the 2006 season, before Mike Piazza came onboard. Enjoy! One of the big question marks headed into 2006 was who would replace Ramon Hernandez behind the plate. First, I have to thank you all for your continued support of Ducksnorts over the years and particularly in 2006. Some days I don't have quite the energy to keep it going and then I remember that you guys are out there, always ready to talk about the Padres. Okay, so while we're all busy feeling sorry for ourselves, I'd just like to point out how much it stinks to be a Blue Jays fan right now: Postseason Odds WPct Playoffs Blue Jays .537 3.93 Padres .496 25.74 Source: Baseball Prospectus. Through games of August 17, 2006. Despite their inferior record, the Padres are six times more likely to reach the playoffs than the Jays. Weekend Wrapup

Beautiful weekend here in San Diego. If you're ever looking for a good way to kill a few hours and stretch your legs, you could do worse than walk from Hospitality Point to Pacific Beach (map shows Mission Blvd.; you'll be on Bayside Walk). Stop at Karinya Thai for some Rahd Prig. Then cut across to Cass St. and walk south till you hit water. Hang a left and continue along the bay until you reach the Ingraham St. bridge. Climb up the stairs and head south on Ingraham, across a couple more bridges, until you eventually get back to where you started. It's about 8 1/4 miles, but man, what a great ...

Ducksnorts Book?

Tough loss Tuesday afternoon. What are you gonna do? That Mets bullpen is mighty tough. I know at least one of the Ducksnorts contingent (Ryguy) was out at Shea cheering on the Padres. Anyone going to other games during the series? Y'all should hook up and take some photos. Not that I'm telling you what to do, of course. ;-) And while I'm thinking of it, this is a good time to pimp Frappr.
