#24@Schlom (Mooneyham): It doesn't matter what Alderson or Main got. What matters is how much money Mooneyham wants. He was considered virtually unsignable by almost every team. Latos, for example, had much less interest in going to college and it still took 1.2 million to land him.

#24@Schlom: (Bradley): I never said he's nuts. But he wasn't justified in seeking a confrontation with the announcer. If it was an unfair or derogatory comment, that's different, public people don't have to turn the other cheek. But what Lefebvre said hardly warranted Jenga going after him to the point that his manager and GM had to restrain him.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#15@Tom Waits: You think it would take that much to sign Mooneyham? That's more then Tim Alderson or Michael Main made (the 22nd and 24th picks) and I think they were higher regarded then Mooneyham. His scouting report from Baseball America says that some clubs had him as the top lefthander on the board but that he wasn't even the best starter on his own high school team and also walked 43 in 46 innings.

The Padres have now signed their top 3 picks. Interestingly, I'm now not so sure that Dykstra was a "signability" pick as he signed for just $100,000 less then the 17th pick (1B David Cooper of Cal by the Blue Jays).

#22@Tom Waits: I'm with you on Milton Bradley. He's obviously nuts. He belongs in either a mental institution or he is going to end up in prison. It's just too bad because now fans are going to be on him even more and he'll be unable to ignore it. At least the inevitable blowup with be entertaining. :)
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#21@Loren: He hurt his oblique and it sounds like he came back too soon. They need to shut him down for much longer this time. Don't want him altering his delivery around pain.

I'm not fussed about limiting his innings, even if this isn't the ideal way to do it.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#19@Richard Wade: I've been a big Jenga supporter, but I'm not sure what the KC announcer did qualifies as a "shot." I can understand him going after Winters last year; the guys three feet away and he calls you a piece of crap (edited for filter). What Lefebvre said doesn't strike me as anything to induce a confrontation; in fact Jenga deciding to go after him basically supports what Lefebvre said, that he doesn't appear to have gotten a handle on his temper.

Bradley was reportedly taunting the KC fans. Is the home announcer not allowed to comment on that?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#14@Geoff Young: re: DSL ... here's some names that the MadFriars drop'd back in Feb ...

The most interesting names that I know of - and I don't claim to know them all - are Pedro Martinez, Juan Herrera, Carlos Montero, Severino Perez, Jhonaton Spraud, Daniel Garce. There are likely more but I am not well versed in all of them just yet.

... and then this from March ...

I believe the best player of the bunch has yet to be seen by anyone - Rymer Liriano.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Another setback for Latos
Mat Latos looked sharp in his first inning back from the disabled list, striking out the side while hitting the low 90s with his fastball.

His second inning didn’t go as well.

The right-handed pitcher left the game with a left intercostal strain after throwing a strike to Michael McKennon in the Wizards’ 5-4 loss to Dayton.

“Everything was fine the first inning. It looked fine, I felt fine. I was a little overexcited about being back. That second inning, the first pitch fastball to the second hitter, the ribs popped again,” Latos said.

“It feels like there is a knife in my ribs right now. It’s the same area, the bottom ribs.”

Latos walked behind the mound in obvious discomfort after throwing his second pitch in the sixth inning. He had entered the game in relief of Aaron Breit one inning earlier.

The No. 3 prospect in San Diego’s organization according to Baseball America, Latos had been on the disabled list since May 22 with a similar injury. Coming into the game, he had an 0-2 record with 3.42 ERA. He had allowed 23 hits, walked seven and struck out 20.

Manager Doug Dascenzo said the team should know more on the injury Thursday.
