BTW, Headley looks like he will indeed be an above average player. He puts a good swing on the ball does he not ?

I will let it go, but I am still perplexed as to why the guy wasn't here two months ago. They told him before spring training that it was his job to win and all he did in STraining was lead the team in total bases and then they send him down and picked up a fringe player like Huber. Oh well, he's is here now and it will be fun watching him develop.

#99@SDSUBaseball: 30 year old Jody Gerut is perhaps a good guy off the bench for the future but there is no future for the guy as an everyday player, especially for a team that will more than likely lose 85-90 games and needs to retool for the future.

Also, to say that PMAC is an above average hitter is worthy of a great debate, to say the least. The question really should be : Is PMAC an above average baseball player ? No.

So maybe we should focus more on pitching as an explanation of the 10 game swing since the hitting seems to have " averaged out". Because of his terrible start last year, it seems the league should have taken longer than usual to get a book on Kouz?

#95@BigWorm: My counterpoint would be that if they really saw Gerut as a backup plan for CF, Edmonds gets more than 6 at-bats in the Cal League to make up for most of spring training. It looks like Gerut became the backup plan after they just couldn't stand to watch Edmonds anymore (and perhaps when they got sick of his attitude in the clubhouse). Kinda like Nevin in 1999, but it happened faster.

By itself swapping Edmonds for Gerut in April - May doesn't turn our season around, but that and a couple other relatively small moves might have.

#96@BigWorm:

#98@SDSUBaseball:

SDSDU is right. Sledge had a good April and June, Cruz had a really good April. They were terrible in May, but the team won anyway. Both were bad in July, but only Cruz had enough at-bats to mean anything.

It's sort of like people saying we're getting nothing from LF this year. Sure we are. The stat line isn't formatted all that pretty, but PMac's been an above-average hitter who gives some back on defense.

#97@BigWorm: Exactly. Gerut has played good defense and has had good production for a CF/leadoff hitter. If it continues what is not to like?
