Greg Riddoch (former Padres manager) is managing the Eugene Emeralds.

24, 25: Not saying that the pick was wasted, just reminding the crowd who Toledo was. You're right that as a freshman he got a lot of playing time in a tough conference.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#29@LynchMob: Was the signing of Cooper Brennan ever about his ability to play baseball but rather a P.R move in a military town ?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#29@LynchMob: The BA draft database doesn't show Dykstra or Decker signed yet, despite reports that they're inked.

Bass was just taken in this draft, the only first day pitcher IIRC. Vandel was a Georgia kid who signed in 2005 and struck out everybody, then got dinged up. He was knocked around in Ft. Wayne this season. Garramone seems like he's been around forever, he was part of the trio of draft-and-follows signed before the 2006 draft (Breit and Miller were the other two). Didn't have a big fastball when he was drafted, don't know what he throws now. Quiles was picked last year out of PR, good catch/throw guy, some power but not a lot of hitting skill.

Would they send Dykstra straight to Elsinore? Hunt and Ruth wouldn't seem to be obstacles.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#27@LynchMob: Liney's had a terrific season. Big bounceback.

Carrasco....he seems like a hard guy to project. A 240 ISO in the MWL is manly, but he's not really a TTO guy with so few walks, and he's not young for the league either. Tighten up his strike zone and you're looking at a potential monster.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#28@LynchMob: Here's the Eugene roster ...

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ros&cid=461&stn=true&sid=t461

Oldest player on the roster: Cooper Brennan ... remember him?

I don't see Dykstra on it yet ... I guess he hasn't actually signed yet? Hope he gets signed and ready to play by Sunday ...

Logan Forsythe @ 3B ... Sawyer Carroll in the OF ... those are the top names I recognize ...
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

For many people I know, their favorite 2 words are "lump sum" ... but for me, there's nothing better than "Opening Day"!

Well, a commentor over at MadFriar's reminded me that TODAY is Opening Day for the Eugene Emeralds!!!

--

It's Opening Day! For this opening five game set in Boise you all can follow the action at boisehawks.com. The "HawksVision" link, at least right now is at the bottom of the page. It requires Windows Media Player to run. Pretty cool. They are the only team, I believe, below Triple-A to show live video of their games over the internet. First pitch is 6:15 p.m. PDT.

You can also hear the game on MiLB.com with Matt McCabe. Just go to multimedia link on the page, chose audio, and go to the link for the game which is in time start order. A great way to follow all of the Padres affiliates. Enjoy...Go Ems!

It's a beautiful day for a ballgame...

--

I won't be able to watch nor listen tonight ... but I'm planning to be there for the home opener on Sunday!

Here's a local look at the Ems ...

It's in the Padres' best interests for Figueroa to play on the Cape too. It gives them more opportunities to evaluate him and see how he hits with wood bats.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
