#40@Field39: I can’t get behind “muffed the Cameron negotiations.” His agent said he wanted 3 years, 10 million per. The Padres said no. If the agent never told them Cameron was willing to take less, why is that all on the Padres?

“Muffed the CF situation,” that’s different. They did that in spades.

Can we really take Jenga’s word for anything? He’s not felt wanted about 10 different places in the past.

Considering the last Gerut (who hasn’t played regularly in 4 years) as an everyday starting centerfielder in the major leagues in May of 2008. Did he hit the lotto or what ? How did the Padres get this bad this fast ?

#34@JP: I can’t see the speed / base stealing issue. He has 151 steals in 700 minor league games, with two seasons over 30 (and those are a month shorter than the major league season). I’ve never read that he’s not fast; not the greatest base runner in the world, not a great CF, but I’ve never seen anyone describe his foot speed as average.

I’d rather have a bench player who can do some things offensively than a defensive replacement, but it’s an open question whether Crabbe is that player. It’s great to have all your utility options wrapped up in one player so you’re not wasting too many roster spots, but again, it may be that Crabbe is not that guy. It’s too early to tell, and he’s not even on the top 10 list of why we’re struggling.

#32@Field39: He didn’t say Edmonds was done but he sort of hinted that he might be. Unless Edmonds catches fire in the Braves series, I think he’ll be out and Gerut in as the center fielder by the weekend.

#33@Steve C: I like that move. Ledezma has the most upside of any other potential starter in the system. I mean, he’s a lefty that throws 94 mph. I hope he does well enough to stay in the rotation. Don’t blow it Wil!

#34@JP: It’s tough to say if Crabbe is good or not. He hardly ever plays. He’s not lightning fast but he’s a lot faster than anyone else on this team. Going off of how little Bud Black used last season’s Rule 5 pick, Kevin Cameron, KT should have known that Black is not comfortable using inexperienced rookies, especially with all of the close games the Padres play.
