#37@JP: Moreno was signed towards the end of last season out of the Mexican League. He spent most of his career in the Rangers' farm system as a starting pitcher with pretty good results. The Padres inserted him as the closer for San Antonio right after they signed him and he has been very successful ever since. Maybe he's one of those guys that has found his niche as a reliever late in his career? I'm looking forward to seeing Guevara. And Hampson should be up soon as well. Last I checked, he hadn't allowed a baserunner in 4 innings with Lake Elsinore.

#37@JP: Track record be damned, Banks gets a mention in the Padre 2008 Hall of Merit for that performance. Harang should get an honorable mention even as an opponent. Moreno.....hard to trust 28 year olds in AAA, but his numbers have improved since he became a reliever. I assume he was a minor league free agent. Love Guevara's numbers. Once he's fully healthy expect him up here and hopefully in high-leverage situations, since there won't be much to lose.

On another note : I was getting a bit excited about Josh Banks, especially in light of that gutsy Sunday performance until I glanced at his minor league numbers. Nothing exceptional to say the least. Guess that is why the Jays would cast him aside.

Edwin Moreno is a guy I am kind of intrigued by at Portland. How did the Pads land this guy ? What is his history ?

Carlos ‘Che’ Guevara looks good as well at AAA.

#33@Pat: It was another risk-avoidance move, which is different than risk-minimization. They've known the kind of hitter Khalil is for a couple years. Now, maybe it made sense on balance to ride things out, but it might have made more sense to cash in on a 27 HR, 97 RBI shortstop.

well yeah khalil is important but
idk if anyone else will place as much importance on him that we do. I think that trade does soldify two spots for the time
being and we could move antonelli to ss, acquire another
through trade/fa or just live with stansbury or Gonzalez at ss

The top of the NL West struggling right now. Brandon Webb has had two really bad outings in a row and Eric Byrnes is scuffling. The Dodgers have slowed down and aren’t hitting (Jeff Kent also slumping).

How about a sweep of the Nats for the Padres and then a post exclaiming “hey, we aren’t out of this thing” won’t sound so irrational.
