#2@LynchMob: With three reliable arms in the bullpen right now, it seems to me the Padres would be better off bringing in someone who can actually help. If they want to use Estes, who hasn't been any good for a very long time, so be it; at least get rid of Glendon Rusch. Pick one lousy pitcher to soak up innings in hopeless situations and use the other roster spot on someone who can make a positive contribution.

Look, I am by no means an Estes fan … I’ve never liked him … even when “good”.

What I’ve learned from his time at Portland is that he can be effective if used for less than 5 innings. Perhaps that’s anecdotal … perhaps we don’t want to use a guy as a starter who can’t go 6 innings … but if all we’re doing is replacing Kevin Cameron, I think Estes can do that job … perhaps not pitch on back-to-back days … but I don’t know how often we need Kevin Cameron’s role to do that …
