A pitcher who is short on stuff and can't strike out 6 minor leaguers per 9, even though he was trained at a big-time college program, isn't likely to have much success. As I said in another post, he might run off a few good starts, like Germano did last year (and his first couple outings in 2008). But Geer is the sort of player who should be cashed in, unless the Padres believe he's an extremely unusual pitcher. Estes has been crap for 7 years. Agree with Bruce. Their minor league numbers favor Germano, actually. A pitcher who is short on stuff and can’t strike out 6 minor leaguers per 9, even though he was trained at a big-time college program, isn’t likely to have much success. As I said in another post, he might run off a few good starts, like Germano did last year (and his first couple outings in 2008). But Geer is the sort of player who should be cashed in, unless the Padres believe he’s an extremely unusual pitcher.

Estes has been crap for 7 years. Why would anyone get excited about his return?

And to answer your question, yes I was never a big fan of Fernando’s presence on the team and cringed every time he took the mound, which is exactly what I will do when Estes is slotted into the 5th spot in the rotation.
