I’m getting in late on this, but big congratulations to Ducksnorts friend Ed Barnes on taking over as producer for Padres telecasts (h/t Friar Forecast) at Channel 4SD. Among many other things, Ed was instrumental in setting up my television debut on “Outta Left Field” back in ’05 and also in connecting me with Matt Vasgersian, who contributed the foreword to the Ducksnorts 2008 Baseball Annual.

So, yeah, I’m biased when it comes to Ed. That, and I like to see good people rewarded. Here’s to continued success!

  1. damn…he’s pretty impressive in center field…

  2. Cla Meredith, on the other hand, is very pretty. Er…, those weak grounders to second are pretty.

  3. Man, that’s one empty looking ballpark.

  4. Crap. Hoffman’s going to get the top of the lineup. And the way he pitches in April, we’ll be lucky if we get out of the top of the 9th tied.

  5. I wonder if Heath Bell will pitch in all 162 games?

  6. Carlos Lee is not a gold glover.

  7. 107: Seems strange that Carlos Lee came up as a third baseman, doesn’t it? Go ahead and try to imagine him at the hot corner (without laughing)…

  8. 108: I actually laughed out loud before reaching the parentheses.

  9. Wow. That was terrible. And it looked like Hairston made it back. Did he come off the bag or something?

  10. Two games, two lapses.

  11. Well he looked safe to me, but that was some terrible baserunning.

  12. Brutally bad base running, by Scott.

  13. It’s very weird to see Trevor with long hair.

  14. No replay from channel 4 either…

  15. 114: It’s a different look.

  16. The changeup is as filthy as ever.

  17. OK, we need 3 strikes against the ‘toon’ guy.

  18. That was some fantastic defense there…

  19. Good call, but I think Adrian should have taken that.

  20. I really didn’t need to see a Hoffman-Berkman matchup.

  21. That game was too close for comfort.

  22. 105: Occasionally, it’s nice to be wrong.

  23. I guess it worked out okay. Hoffy needs a haircut, though…

  24. And according to WPA, CY was the MVP of tonight’s game edging Hairston by .005.

  25. I wasn’t that impressed by CY’s outing. Being a big fan of his, I was a little let down. Our defense did a decent job of protecting this game.

  26. I hope the Post Game Show doesn’t sugar coat this. This wasn’t pretty.

  27. ok, 44 more saves and Hoffman in forgiven.

  28. 123: Well it helped that Darin Erstad and Michael Bourn were the first two hitters. Those guys don’t really qualify as dangerous top of the order hitters. But, wow, Hoffman looked great.

  29. #129 agreed. he located a high-80′s fastball and mixed in the changeups when he needed them… he gave me that same giddy feeling he’s been giving me for years…

  30. To me, Trevor Hoffman is like your big brother when some bullies have been picking on you that shows up just in time to keep you from getting beat up. Did you see how far in front of his changeup Erstadt was? filthy. just filthy.

  31. 8 games tonight… 7 decided by one run… spring is here

  32. 124: I love the hair. WAY better than his normal hair cut

  33. Running late again. Shooting for 8:30 a.m. PT. Thanks!

  34. Geoff is having internet issues, but is hoping to post by 9 AM. Stay tuned…

  35. Re: 135 I didn’t know Boston Terriers could type!

  36. 136: Heh; is Smitty his BT? That’s one talented terrier if so. :-)
