19: Derailing from the topic at had each day with the SAME EXACT comments each time isn't a good thing. GY posts and we comment. Its not group thinks. Everyone isn't in total agreement with their comments or even what GY posts. There is plenty of healthy intelligent argument about the day's topic. But when the topic is, for example, Tadihito Iguchi, the thread shouldn't be derailed with the same tired post (Loshe, Gerut sucks, Penny Pinching Moores, we are the Royals) as the previous 3 weeks of topics.

#15, 21: Divergent opinions are great, so long as they are supported by some amount of intelligence.

#18: Exactly. I'd prefer not to spend my time moderating posts, but we need to do a better job of advancing the discussion. Saying the same thing over and over again isn't civil discourse, and it isn't welcome here.

This has been added to the Comments Policy. Thanks to all for honoring it.

LM: I'd be very suprised if I beat your picks in the tourney. It's like this every year with my picks so, yes, you are right I know squat about the Madness. Still, it doesn't stop me from entering a bracket or two. :) Heck, you invite, I participate.

Corey Patterson is not a very good player and he has history to back him up on that. Sure, one can say you know exactly what kind of a player you are getting with him. A serviceable CF. Unfortunately, he's a below average player.
I'd roll the dice with Gerut for a month or so, and yes, he can completely tank but he can also be good.

15: DS has always had divergent opinions and plenty of intelligent, critical thought, and it was a much more pleasant place without the belabored, constant negativity of some posters.

I would say that a lot of the OF problems would disappear if Hairston can handle CF. Personally, I thought it would be a longshot but he's played out there a lot this spring and I haven't read anything that says he's terrible out there. If he can play CF they can slide Edmonds over to LF which is probably a better spot for him. They'd still have age and possible injury problems (plus Edmonds and Giles both were terrible against lefties last season along with Giles being terrible at home) but when Headley gets called up that would solve LF. They'd still need a righty to platoon with Giles/Edmonds.

I think everyone realizes that I've been driving the dump Gerut bandwagon. What I don't get is that when I said that I would have liked to sign Corey Patterson everyone ripped into me. But at least he's played in the majors the past three season (granted one of them was awful). At least with Patterson you get a superior athlete how can cover a ton of ground in CF and can be used on the bases -- neither of which Gerut provides.

As I said, if Hairston can play CF then a lot of the OF problems disappear.

18.

I get the point, didn't miss it. My prespective is a little different. I believe derailing is a good thing, that lively debate is a whole lot more intersting than full agreement on every point.
If the holes on this team were not a hot button no one would respond, the posts would just hang there, but they are a hot button and people respond. In essence you can't derail without willing participants.

Re: 17

CBS sports has .289 avg. with a .632 slugging.

The point, if you missed it, was the flow of the blog has been derailed at every opportunity of late with pedantic and repetitive b.s.
