Re:36...I still do think it is right to explore the trade b/c his value in the trade market may be higher than his value on the field...we, the fans, just got a small peek into the negotiations, letting us know that there may be other factors that will come into play. And your point about some enjoying being away is well taken...

Two years is a long time away, and in the meantime, the Padres are trying to win, right? Granted, all the good National League teams — and now there are four of them — can’t get into the playoffs every year. But considering the Padres won 89 games just last season, they certainly can’t shift into rebuilding mode this year. When it comes to Greene, all you have to do is make him a reasonable offer, and if he doesn’t accept it, you enjoy his value for another season and reevaluate. The only downside to waiting is that if he doesn’t repeat his 2007 numbers, his trade value goes down. But when you’re trying to win 90 games, that’s not really something you worry about.

:39 you beat me to the KT extension. I think this is a good signing. Keep Paul, KT, and Sandy and we’ll have a World Series contender now, next year and in a few years. That’s what it’s all about…staying in contention long term.

PS I’m in LA working and noticed how much it sucks to be a Dodger fan.
