| sp: | Jake Peavy (19-6, 2.36) vs Josh Fogg (10-9, 4.79) |

Analyze this one however you’d like; it’s one game, and anything can happen. That is my greatest fear and also my greatest hope. Go Padres!
Picking up where last year's version left off, the Ducksnorts 2008 Baseball Annual provides in-depth analysis of and commentary on the San Diego Padres. Get your copy today.

My hands are already clammy.
October 1, 2007 at 3:39 pm
1: Yeah, my stomach is in knots.
And GY, true that. The fact that it’s one game gives me hope, and also feels like a kick in the gut. One hiccup, and the season is finished. Of course, the Rox are playing under the same sort of pressure. However, it just seems like since they’re not supposed to be here anyway, the pressure is significantly lighter on their side.
October 1, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Let’s have some fun tonight, folks … expect GREAT things from Jake … he’s *our* man! The top of our lineup will score some runs! Onward!
October 1, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Get me a towel!
October 1, 2007 at 4:02 pm
I’ve got to leave for class at 5, so I’ll be MIA for tonite’s affair. I’ll be able to listen all the way up to 6 o’clock. Here’s hoping I don’t miss much in class because we’re already soundly in control of this one.
October 1, 2007 at 4:08 pm
I like Chris Jenkins’ (SD-UT) NLCYA ballot …
NL Cy Young: 1. Jake Peavy, San Diego; 2. Brandon Webb, Arizona; 3. Heath Bell, San Diego.

Lineups posted …

… it’s what I was expecting for the Padres … Bard + B(l)um + Clark in 6/7/8 spots … I’m good … let’s GO!
October 1, 2007 at 4:19 pm
I like that Jake’s .561 OPS dwarfs Fogg’s .291
October 1, 2007 at 4:23 pm
8: Jake will help himself in this game. I hope the rest of the team are ready to help Jake as well by scoring lots and lots of runs early, late, and often.
October 1, 2007 at 4:26 pm
TBS is blacking out the game here. I can’t even watch the padres in a nationally televised game. This sucks.
October 1, 2007 at 4:26 pm
9- hell yeah!!!
October 1, 2007 at 4:29 pm
Alright fellas. Lets do this.
October 1, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Let’s get it on!!!!!!!!!!
October 1, 2007 at 4:33 pm
nevermind I feel silly for making that last post. It looks like they are going to show it after all.
October 1, 2007 at 4:34 pm
Let’s get it on!
October 1, 2007 at 4:36 pm
We got our A-Team in tonight. Let’s get it done…
October 1, 2007 at 4:37 pm
14
Gee — why would you think that? Maybe because episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond played right up until 7:30?
At about 7:20 I had a minor panic attack when I turned on the TV, until I realized what they were doing.
October 1, 2007 at 4:40 pm
i cant get to any game feeds today at work, so please talk it up!
October 1, 2007 at 4:40 pm
I hope the Padres defense is better than the Chargers tonight.
October 1, 2007 at 4:41 pm
Hey, it’s a single in the books.
October 1, 2007 at 4:42 pm
KK gets us going!
October 1, 2007 at 4:42 pm
Uh oh. These announcers believe in momentum and that Kouz’s bloop will give him confidence.
October 1, 2007 at 4:45 pm
After top of 1st …
Pitches-strikes - J Fogg 19-12.
Ground balls-fly balls - J Fogg 1-0.
Batters faced - J Fogg 4.
(don’t worry, I won’t do this all night … I gotta head outta here at 510ish)
October 1, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Man, I would have really liked to see KG get up with a couple of men on. I have no stats to prove it, by recent recollection is that KG sees the ball VERY well at Coors….
October 1, 2007 at 4:46 pm
Just to spite the Rockies, I have foresaken my normal Coors Light preference for Busch Light (remember: I’m living on a students’ budget!!!)…
October 1, 2007 at 4:47 pm
I hate Kaz Matsui.
October 1, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Khalil loves Coors.
October 1, 2007 at 4:50 pm
#24: .340/.407/.708 in 162 PA.
October 1, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Was I just in denial going into this game, or should we have predicted that this would be the way the first inning would go?!?
October 1, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Leitner keeps saying things like “Matsui isn’t hitting” and “Tulo doesn’t have a hit off of Jake”
Could he please just stfu?
October 1, 2007 at 4:51 pm
Jake’s been squeezed on three pitches already this inning, including one to Kaz Matsui..
October 1, 2007 at 4:53 pm
This isn’t really a good start.
October 1, 2007 at 4:53 pm
I can only take so much of this before my hearts gives out and I need an ambulance.
October 1, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Man, this just feels so typical of being a San Diego sports fan. I’m seriously getting burned out on the “optimism” thing…
October 1, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Unreal.
October 1, 2007 at 4:56 pm
There goes the plan of getting an early lead and never trailing.
October 1, 2007 at 4:56 pm
I’m so pessimistic about this game and it looks like my fears are being realized. ONE STRIKE AWAY!!! That’s how close they were.
October 1, 2007 at 4:57 pm
Getting it done in Milwaukee would have been good. Get ready to make nice with your favorite Mets fan…
October 1, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Guys, there’s plenty of game left.
October 1, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Cruel world. Cruel, cruel world.
October 1, 2007 at 4:59 pm
I agree with Masticore. We’re giving up down two against Josh Fogg in Coors Field?
October 1, 2007 at 4:59 pm
Peavy not do well in a big game? You don’t say…
Padres better start hitting quick.
October 1, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Jake, jake, jake, jake, jake….(shaking head)
October 1, 2007 at 5:00 pm
42: You mean like the big game last week against the Giants where he gave up one run in 7 innings? You mean the games this September against the Dodger, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Rockies where he has completely dominated, with one bad game on short rest?
October 1, 2007 at 5:00 pm
#41: Not giving up, just hating life a little. There’s a difference.
October 1, 2007 at 5:01 pm
yeah what is his problem with big games, i just dont get why he crumbles under pressure.
he usually has a whole bunch of confidence! where did it go?
October 1, 2007 at 5:01 pm
That wasn’t a complete disaster but the Rox didn’t have any trouble putting good wood on the ball. Jake needs to settle down or he’s going to get shelled. Just once I’d like to see Jake come through in a big game. There’s still time for that if he gets it together.
October 1, 2007 at 5:01 pm
gnash
October 1, 2007 at 5:02 pm
WTF?!? Josh Fogg?!?!
October 1, 2007 at 5:02 pm
After 1 full …
Pitches-strikes - J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 19-12.
Ground balls-fly balls - J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 1-0.
Batters faced - J Peavy 7; J Fogg 4.
… hmmm … it felt a lot worse than that, didn’t it?
October 1, 2007 at 5:02 pm
Geez, this seems to have all the earmarks of another mediocre starter looking like an all-star against our lineup
October 1, 2007 at 5:03 pm
The announcing team on TBS is down there with the likes of Hawk and Wimpy…
October 1, 2007 at 5:04 pm
“Losing is a disease, as infectious as syphillis”
-The Natural
(I really think not hitting well is too)
October 1, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Not helping that Fogg is getting that pitch three inches outside while Peavy didn’t getting anything off the corner.
October 1, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Shakespeare!!! Nice job!
October 1, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Great AB by Bard.
October 1, 2007 at 5:06 pm
We lost our best hitter and another one of our better hitters, so obviously the offense isn’t very good now. But the announcers seem to be completely unaware of park effects in discussing the offense, which is actually pretty middle of the road when healthy.
October 1, 2007 at 5:07 pm
Bardo= “the Anti-Padre” (like Milton Bradley)…. these guys are great members of the Padre Portfolio,..
October 1, 2007 at 5:08 pm
B(l)um proves that not every fly ball goes out of Coors …
October 1, 2007 at 5:09 pm
After top of 2nd …
Pitches-strikes - J Peavy 25-16; J Fogg 37-24.
Ground balls-fly balls - J Peavy 0-3; J Fogg 2-1.
Batters faced - J Peavy 7; J Fogg 8.
… Jake starts us off next inning …
October 1, 2007 at 5:10 pm
TBS=Those Braves Stink…
October 1, 2007 at 5:10 pm
But we’re hitting the ball–these should start falling, or flying.
October 1, 2007 at 5:10 pm
44: Wouldn’t call any of those big games. I’d consider a big game a playoff game, or one with lots of hype, such as his start versus Boston or his short rest start versus AZ.
The only somewhat recent “big” game I can think of that Peavy did good in was the start against Clemens a few years ago.
October 1, 2007 at 5:11 pm
Yorvit Torrealba? Really Jake?
October 1, 2007 at 5:11 pm
Ick.
October 1, 2007 at 5:11 pm
Crap, I meant the Padres…
October 1, 2007 at 5:11 pm
mothergrabber!
WTF?????????
October 1, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Somehow I thought this would happen.
October 1, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Yuck.
October 1, 2007 at 5:12 pm
at least he struck out the pitcher
October 1, 2007 at 5:12 pm
I’m turning this off. Maybe me not watching it will somehow improve the ball club. One strike away.
October 1, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Only his 12th HR allowed in 220 IP…
October 1, 2007 at 5:13 pm
It seems like when the game is a big one, Peavy goes into gung-ho he-man mode and gets shelled.
October 1, 2007 at 5:13 pm
WHY WHY WHY??????????????????
Why am I a baseball fan??? What the hell is wrong with me?
This is excruciating
October 1, 2007 at 5:14 pm
74: yeah I wonder the same thing myself
October 1, 2007 at 5:14 pm
I can’t believe I cancelled recording “Prison Break” in order to watch this crap.
October 1, 2007 at 5:15 pm
I’m not giving up yet, but I’m not going to torture myself by watching anymore either. Hopefully when I check back in a little while all will be right with the world.
October 1, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Peavy actually looks more composed under this Blitzkrieg than during past struggles. He must battle through this and hope the offense can have a big inning or two.
October 1, 2007 at 5:16 pm
77
Probably a good move
October 1, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Big rally coming - Peavy to lead it off.
October 1, 2007 at 5:17 pm
29 of 30 fans end the season crushed. It’s the nature of the format.
October 1, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Jiminy Christmas people! I check the score for the first time and already we’re down 3-nil? This is unacceptable! Get with it, boys!
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
Here we go Padres, here we go (clap clap)
October 1, 2007 at 5:18 pm
The Jake. Cool.
October 1, 2007 at 5:19 pm
At least Jake steps up his hitting in the clutch.
October 1, 2007 at 5:19 pm
Fogg finally got squeezed - might be a long night with McClelland’s strike zone –
October 1, 2007 at 5:20 pm
We will get to Fogg. Can Peavy stabilize ?
October 1, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Nice. Two on, no outs. Lets put something on the board.
October 1, 2007 at 5:21 pm
c’mon Superhero, let’s go — base knock her
October 1, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Ok….I’m here now and I just opened my first beer….things will get better from now on..
October 1, 2007 at 5:22 pm
Time do do some damage, Padre style.
October 1, 2007 at 5:22 pm
here
October 1, 2007 at 5:22 pm
90: I don’t know, Padre style might mean a bases loaded double play and then a pop out.
October 1, 2007 at 5:23 pm
dammit
October 1, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Shit! PEAVY, you can make that!!!!! OMG! CRAP!!!
October 1, 2007 at 5:23 pm

SAY HELLO TO 100 RBI AND 30 HR!!!!!!!!!
October 1, 2007 at 5:24 pm
DEAR GOD!!!
October 1, 2007 at 5:25 pm
YESSSS!!!!! ADRIAN!!!!!
I was just about to suggest Peavy didn’t score to make Adrian’s homer a more dramatic grand slam.
October 1, 2007 at 5:25 pm
HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW??? THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ‘BOUT!!!!!
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Shakespeare! This is the Fogg we were expecting.
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm
HELL YES WE ARE HITTING THE BALL
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Now that’s the Fogg I have come to know.
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm
The real Peavy started to surface last inning, now we see the real Fogg
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Let’s get more……don’t let up now boys!!!!!
October 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm

October 1, 2007 at 5:27 pm
