Phillies will win practically every day now. They may blow by the Mets – the Mets are getting beat late at DC. Can you imagine the Mets not making the playoffs ? They are only 4 behind the Pads for the last playoff spot !!! The NL Pennant race is wide open !!!

12: Darnit! I was in the process of collecting a few of my favorites before providing the link! Oh well, here are four of my favorites:

    1: Four of my favorite:

-When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, but pushing the world down….

-There is no chin under Chuck Norris’ Beard. There is only another fist.

-Chuck Norris did not “lose” his virginity, he stalked it and then destroyed it with extreme prejudice

    - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on a true story: Chuck Norris once swallowed a turtle whole, and when he crapped it out, the turtle was six feet tall and had learned karate

    Pitches-strikes – J Van Benschoten 17-9; J Cassel 9-6.

    Ground balls-fly balls – J Van Benschoten 3-0; J Cassel 2-1.

    Batters faced – J Van Benschoten 5; J Cassel 3.

… that 1st inning was a nice job of “pitching to contact” by Jack C.

Cassel looks pretty bad right now. His control seems really off, and he keeps hanging his breaking pitches and leaving balls up. Fortunately, we’re in Petco and he’s pitching against the Pirates, so he can get away with these sort of things.

After being down 11-0, the Cards are actually giving the Phils a bit of a scare, narrowing deficit to 3. One thing about the Phils, they have a horrible pen. They would be even closer to the Mets and to the Wild Card spot if they hadn’t blown an 8 or 9 run lead to the Braves a week or so ago.

Great job by Cassel. I think the thing we have to get used to with him is that he is rarely going to toss up anything that even approaches the kinds of gems that CY or Peavy can toss up, even Maddog for that matter. He’s probably going to give up 2-4 runs per game and the offense is going to have to over come it.

Phils bring on Alfonseca to put out the fire in St.Louis. He follows Jose Mesa and Clay Condrey in relief. Are you kidding me ? How bad could a bullpen be ? And look at some of the bums that the Mets have on their pitching staff.

On the late night shift in the dead of last Winter, I heard John Kentera on XEXX spend two or three minutes on Jack Cassel. Kentera told listeners that he “wouldn’t be surprised if Cassel was a factor this year because he had decent stuff & he knew how to battle”. As a Padre junky, I knew who Cassel was, but I never thought that someone on a sports talk show in SD would ever mention someone like Cassel. This is one example of Kentera’s baseball knowledge and instincts. Cassel was actually demoted to AA last year and had to resurrect himself as a starter. It’s quite a cinderella story. Though we are lacking in big time prospects at the higher levels, I think that it is a testimony to the leadership of this franchise that we work with players like this to foster development–guys like Germano or Cassel

74 … I disagree … you just can’t risk sending those guys out for another inning … they are not front-line starters … they are guys that have put together a good outing … take the innings an RUN … overall, I’m a bit down on BB … but getting Tomko and Cassel out before they turn back into pumpkins has been AOK with me …

#84 Stansberry simply hasn’t had enough reps at this level to know much – it would be risky dumping Marcus at this point for a couple of different reasons. As recently as yesterday I was on dump Marcus Giles train, I chickened out when I had a vision of Stansberry getting picked off second base in a playoff game -caught like a deer in the headlights.

Nice win! Great start from Cassel. It went a lot like his last start. Let a lot of runners on base, but kept them there. Not pretty, but I’ll take it.

Felix follows with a 2 run shot. Wow, the Arizona announcers are depressed. It’s great.
