You can get out this Chris!

Is anyone else amazed at how bad some of the pitches the Marlins’ get hits on are? The triple to Amezaga was on a pitch that was chin high off the plate.

Nice work there by CY to get out of the inning. And you think we get frustrated when he leave men on. Imagine squandering a lead off triple.

Heads up: Don’t go to ‘Park in the Park’ if you really want to watch the game. It’s a nice cheap venue for a large family, but being the sports nut I am, I didn’t like it. 10 of us in the whole fam damely and had a good time with the sand lot and the fireworks. But, I struggled to see the game.

I’ll never understand how CY doesnt get hammered. He throws almost all fastballs around 89-90 and I dont think there is a straighter fastball in the league. Being 6′10″ helps I am sure, but how do guys who see him more regularly not hammer him? I was scared at the beginning of the year that that had started to happen, but he turned it around.

Did Michael Barrett already wear out his welcome? This is the third game in a row that he hasn’t started, and Josh Bard certainly hasn’t done anything to earn this PT. I can only assume that these pitchers prefer to work with Bard, and that is not a good sign if we have to start the inferior catcher at least 3 of every 5 starts.

Did anyone just see something fall out of CY’s hat and he picked up and put in his pocket?

Yeargh, Khalil falls to the dreaded slider of death.

  26. Marsh
    Posted July 4, 2007 at 8:02 pm | Permalink

So, not likely this will happen since CY has 104 pitches, but if he can get one more out, then he will lower his ERA below 2.0. Seems like a small step, but a huge talking point for ESPN analysts….

23: I really dont think there is much difference between Bard and Barrett, we just luck out and get 2 startering catchers. Works out nicely because the back up catcher is normally a hole in the line-up, now we have 2 guys that hit well.
28: Haha I cant stand the uniforms. They look so cheesy, especially with the pants that dont match at all.

I sure hope Linebrink doesnt blow this one…. hopefully Willingham doesnt pinch hit

David, Kouz hit the ball sharply but right at Cabrera. The throw home was low and Olivo was thinking about the double play… and it skipped underneath him. Cameron scores, game over.

Peavy tomorrow, day game. I cringe…

  61. SDSUBASEBALL
    Posted July 4, 2007 at 8:54 pm | Permalink

60: Cringe? haha why? We hit better during the day and Peavy is 4-1 witn a 1.93 ERA in 6 games during the day this year. If your gonna “cringe” cringe because its Peavy at home, where he has been just terrible with and ERA under 3 hahaha

  62. Posted July 4, 2007 at 9:14 pm | Permalink

BTW, this is the point I’ve been trying to make on my blog and in some private conversations… we don’t necessarily need more power. We need to put the ball in play, especially with a man on second or third and less than two outs. Give the opposition the chance to make a mistake at least. Strikeouts don’t accomplish that.

  63. Rick Schroder (Turbine Dude)
    Posted July 4, 2007 at 9:16 pm | Permalink

Rich, I totally agree with that. That’s where the runs are made.

1 run on nine hits, what is this, pee wee ball! Its a win, but how long can our pitchers last under teh pressure? Whatever.

  65. SDSUBASEBALL
    Posted July 4, 2007 at 9:41 pm | Permalink

62: Yes, we need some guys that just plain hit. Power is not absolutely nessasary, but a couple guys that can hit close to .300 would help.
64: No in Pee Wee ball ther would had scored at least 5 runs on 9 hits. We seem to only hit when the bases are empty.

  66. Posted July 4, 2007 at 10:05 pm | Permalink

Hey, I’ve got a completely pointless statistics calculating question for you all.

Lindstrom got the loss last night without getting a single out. I know the run that scored was unearned, but what if it was… how would they have calculated his ERA? Would they just say he pitched a third of an inning? Or the entire thing? Or does keeping the IP at zero somehow not affect how they calculate ERA?

  74. SDSUBASEBALL
    Posted July 5, 2007 at 10:59 am | Permalink

73: The ERA for the night is N/A, it gets put on his season and career ERA if it was earned. ERA cannot be calculated until an out is recorded. I could be wrong, but this is how i remember it.
