I’m pretty sure someone will pick up Branyan. At least they’d be smart to. The guy is generally a bargain. He comes with a short term, cheap contract and he goes out and hits. He’d probably be best off in the AL where he can DH. His main problem, imo, is not his k’s or low average, it’s his defense (although it is probably better than advertised at 3b).

Anyway, I don’t really like the move. If the Padres made it because of his high k’s/low ball in play/low average offensive game .. I’d be pretty upset. If they made it more because of his defense, I think I’d be more understanding of the move. Still, I don’t think it’s a good one.

I don’t know….

#7 Releasing Branyan makes NO sense....not one bit of sense ? If this is the case then there should be more than a few teams clamoring for his services. Remember our bet, the guy will not have 150 more PA's in the majors.

It's pretty sad state of affairs when fans are crying for the return of a guy who is hitting .197 and is hitting about a buck eighty since April. What is Branyan worth to other MLB clubs ? Well, I doubt if any other team will pick him up, especially when he has already played for nearly a quarter of them.

You know what would have been really nice in the ninth inning after Kouz got on base? If we had a left-handed bench bat with a ton of power who could offer us a realistic chance at a tie ball game with one swing. Or, maybe someone who could draw a walk to put the tying run on base. Probably that guy with a big bat would strike out, but obviously that's not worse than what Blum did.

The press release announcing the release of Russell Branyan credited him with one home run this year, when he actually had 7. Weird. It got all his other stats right.
