149: True, but all or almost all of those have been solo shots. A solo shot every now and then doesn't bug me as much as a string of 5 well-hit singles and doubles. There's more than one pitching stat for a reason and Liney has solid numbers for ERA (2.20), W-L (2-1), and BB/SO ratio (8/19) for starters. Bell (and of course Hoffman) is the only pitcher I trust more than Liney at this point. Meredith, Hampson, Cameron and Brocail/Ring all have their own issues too - whether it be mechanical or just not enough experience. And there are no promises that the newcomers will keep up their current pace should they get more opportunities.

Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't mind seeing Liney traded for a very good bat that was more than just a 3-month rental. However, I also wouldn't mind having him stick around and keep doing what he's doing.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#149: Home runs allowed doesn't tell the whole story. Since coming to San Diego, only two pitchers in baseball -- Francisco Rodriguez and Mariano Rivera -- have a lower ERA than Linebrink (min. 300 IP):

Linebrink can be moved in the right package, but his skill set is less replaceable than some folks might believe.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

148, 148: I just think there are other pitchers in our 'pen that can get the job done and alot of teams like Linebrink so why not get rid of him when he really isnt a piece we NEED. And yes the description is on par. He has given up more homeruns than any other reliever on our staff.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

146: SDSUB has been nothing but vocal about her hatred of Liney.

He did mess up last night, but he really has been quite good with the holds this year. And he certainly warrants that 8th inning slot this year, especially in comparison to 2006.

139: Great description and nice photo album. Next time I have $70 lying around I think I might have to get one of the Ems jerseys, since Ems is one of my nicknames.

I take it we agreed to a contract for Colon since he's in one of your pictures?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Great description of the game, LM. Congrats on the Beavers winning the College World Series again this year.

As for the Padres, the two losses in this series sting, but long term the series indicated that this Padre team is very good. The pitching definitely lived up to its billing, holding one of the best hitting teams in baseball to 7 runs in three games. The offense produced at times, but got mostly shut down by two very good pitchers. Bottom line, if we meet the Red Sox in the World Series, we know we can hang with them, and the outcome will likely come down to who gets the fortuitous bounces, as this one did.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

#116: This description of Linebrink doesn't jibe with his actual performance since coming to the Padres.
