Maybe a few bad calls, but our hitting with men in scoring position did not mask a better offensive game. The weak batting lines of both teams:

BOS: 219/294/281 (OPS = 575)
SDG: 206/308/206 (OPS = 514)

So, not exactly an offensive outpouring, but they outhit us, albeit slightly. So losing 2-1 was actually in line with the batting lines. Seeing us hit 514 is not new; holding BOS to 575 is pretty sweet.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

tough loss; KG almost busted it open, but his approach seemed to be take the first pitch (all three times fastballs down the middle); uh-oh, i am down 0-1, better foul off/swing at pitch out of the zone on the second pitch, OK, now down 0-2, survival mode...

some of this is bad luck, but there are several padres that when they come to the plate, i get queasy in tight situations because i don't trust their approach: they hit well sporadically, but you don't feel that they are going to work the count. these are cameron and greene. both of these guys can get red hot, but i like KK, headley, AGon, Cruz's approach better than those two even though they have better numbers than some of these guys.

the non-K call on youkalis definitely looked like the calls that dice-K got, but generally the balls and strikes were OK

strap them on for today; go get 'em
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Turns out Bradley wasn't really traded to the Royals. An oblique injury was discovered, so the trade was called off. I'd still like to see the Padres get him, use him when he's healthy and try to ensure he's ready for the stretch run and the playoffs. He'll still upgrade the team when he's in there, and we have the guys to replace him when he's injured.

The Matsuzaka stories by Matt and Mud sounded like the Chuck Norris facts after a while. You know, "Dice-K doesn't strike out batters. He stares them down until they realize the futility of their at bat and they sit back down."
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

madfriars.com has reported this: Injury notes from Portland:

Outfielder Vincent Sinisi has been bothered for the past couple of weeks by a sore left hip. It's caused him to miss three recent starts after missing just one all season.

In the last two days, three Beaver players have left games in Fresno with injuries: infielder Frank Menechino left Wednesday's game with a calf injury; infielder Oscar Robles came out of the same game after rolling on his left wrist while diving for a ball; and outfielder Paul McAnulty came out of last night's game with an apparent right thigh injury sustained while running down the first base line.

LHP Adrian Burnside has been sent to Portland from Double-A San Antonio. Infielder Oscar Robles was placed on the DL.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
