I was there as well, and it was probably the greatest, most unbelievable game I've ever been to, Major League or otherwise. I had a SWEEP LA sign and I probably high fived 600 people on the way out of the ballpark.

I was at the game, sitting in the first row down the right field line. That was by far the best game I’ve ever seen in my life. One of the best moments of my life.

You can’t put all the blame on Broxton for that one. Three batters reached base on poorly hit balls to the right side of the infield. That was just bad luck.

I don’t think this causes the Dodgers to spiral. They’re professionals, and it certainly didn’t kill us last year. It is nice to gain an extra game on them and really put the game we blew last year behind us.

Watching this one on Tivo; after that 7th inning was kind of fast-forwarding. In the 9th, after two guys reached, I started watching each swing in slow motion. I love that feeling when hope starts to worm its way past my cyncism that the Padres could possibly rally. I love it when it is rewarded instead of just making me hope a bit before crushing my soul. Tonight it was rewarded.
Wow. What a nice win.

Regarding the strike zone, I looked at Gameday on Betemit vs Peavy and both ball 3 and ball 4 looked like strikes on Gameday, quasi-borderline, but more strike than ball. The ball 4 to Branyan, well outside. All this according to Gameday.

These guys are professionals, so I doubt this will cause some spiral down, but it sure has to be an awful way to get swept. In our 4 HR misery, it had a surreal feel of destiny that on that night, the Dodgers would win. This was some gutty Padres play, but bad execution that enabled the win. My guess is that stings worse, and could create some counter-productive finger-pointing.

Black should not have let Peavy face Furcal, despite the crappy calls against him on Betemit.

Little must hate Broxton. They have no other pitcher available? I kind of hope that Broxton goes into a downward spiral, causing his release and the Padres snatch him up.

RE. #154: I don’t think so. I don’t believe in that stuff anymore after that game last year against the Dodgers where they hit 4 homeruns in a row. That was one of the most demoralizing Padres’ losses I’ve ever watched.

If we were able to bounce right back from that and win the next day, the Dodgers will be fine. It’s still nice to piss on the Cheerios tonight and snatch a victory from them.

re. 159: doesn’t matter where it was when it was five feet in front of the plate… look, if you are throwing constant strikes, you get the call. If you’re all over the place… you don’t. Umpires are human and they build expectations too.
