I’m still recovering from the draft. Go Padres and all that…

June 7, 2007 at 6:07 pm
Say it with me… SWEEP! SWEEP!
June 7, 2007 at 6:21 pm
Okay, I’m a little too juiced up for tonights game. PEAVY! PEAVY! PEAVY! Shoot, I hope Jake’s not as jacked up as I am…
June 7, 2007 at 6:23 pm
haha. I think we’re all jacked up for the sweep. Now if only those darn DBacks would lose every once in a while…
June 7, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Let’s win this game. Worry about the Dbacks when the Padres play them.
Go Jake! Go Padres!
June 7, 2007 at 6:35 pm
Earlier today, GY said … “I’ve got my X Nady Storm jersey on for the draft.” …
I’ve got my “10th Fan” shirt on …
What are *YOU* doing for the cause???
June 7, 2007 at 6:49 pm
You’ve motivated me LM, I went and found my retro-, orange, fitted SD padres hat (of course, it was never an official cap, so it’s hard to call it retro). I’ve never worn it for a game before, so not sure if it’s “lucky” or not, but at least I’m now trying to do my part…..
June 7, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I’m at work, but I’m hoping really hard
June 7, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I’ve been wearing the same Padres hat since Monday.
June 7, 2007 at 6:52 pm
at least it’s just a hat that you’ve been wearing since Monday
June 7, 2007 at 7:03 pm
another start from blummer.. any word on KG?
June 7, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Nice, quick inning from Jake. No word on Khalil other than his arm still hurts…
June 7, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Bud prolly doesn’t want to break up a winning lineup!
June 7, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Yo, 10 pitches in the 1st for Jake … looks like he was payin’ attention last night
June 7, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Much better 1st inning from Peavy, surely a sign of good things to come
June 7, 2007 at 7:12 pm
OK, let’s work Kuo
June 7, 2007 at 7:15 pm
How do you rush a throw trying to get Adrian at first?
June 7, 2007 at 7:15 pm
9: What did you hear? I’ve been wearing other things too since Monday! I don’t go around with just a hat on, you know. THAT’s for the World Series!
June 7, 2007 at 7:16 pm
16: slowly???
June 7, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Brutal at-bat by Bard. He swung at balls three and four.
June 7, 2007 at 7:19 pm
17: I meant at least you haven’t been wearing the same socks or the same underwear since monday
June 7, 2007 at 7:20 pm
And the Giants have taken a 2-1 lead over the DBacks
June 7, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Come on, Cameron. Drive in runs!!!
June 7, 2007 at 7:21 pm
And we proceed to let Kuo off the hook.
June 7, 2007 at 7:22 pm
After 1 …
Pitches-strikes - H Kuo 20-11; J Peavy 10-6.
Ground balls-fly balls - H Kuo 0-1; J Peavy 2-1.
Batters faced - H Kuo 5; J Peavy 3.
June 7, 2007 at 7:22 pm
20: Oh, those. I haven’t changed those, either….just kidding. Or maybe not…nah….I have….maybe.
June 7, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Urgh. Mike did the same thing last night, too.
Crap. Bad ABs by Bard and Cameron. A Sac Fly would have been nice.
June 7, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Bard nails Martin trying to steal second. Martin is still tired from running all over the place on Tuesday.
June 7, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Oh, my freakin’ goodness, we caught someone stealing?
June 7, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Sweet CS. Quick inning for Jake on 10 pitches.
June 7, 2007 at 7:29 pm
27: LOL. Perhaps, the same strategy ought to be in place tonight.
June 7, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Ah, GameDay is crapping out on me. Going home!
Go Padres!
June 7, 2007 at 7:33 pm
3-1 GNats
June 7, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Boca has been a spark plug
June 7, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Wow, Kuo just threw “Mr. Snappy”… I thought only the ugly feller from Arizona threw that…
June 7, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Thru 2 …
Pitches-strikes - H Kuo 38-21; J Peavy 20-14.
Ground balls-fly balls - H Kuo 0-3; J Peavy 4-1.
Batters faced - H Kuo 9; J Peavy 6.
… patience, boyz, patience!
June 7, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Baseball Tonight just proposed an interesting question. If you were to draft any one player right now to build a franchise around, then who would you draft?
Orel Hershiser says Jose Reyes
Dusty Baker says Derek Lee
Eric Young says JAKE PEAVY
Great stuff EY. Great stuff. Said a lot of great things about Peavy in his explanation, too.
June 7, 2007 at 7:48 pm
BTW, not sure I completely agree with EY, but it’s nice to see Peavy get a shout-out like that.
June 7, 2007 at 8:02 pm
How the hell do we not have a hit against this guy? Jesus Christ guys, his ERA is over 7!
June 7, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Cammy just got under that one. Kuo is all over the place; we really need to start making him pay for his wildness.
June 7, 2007 at 8:05 pm
With no hits through three innings, we’ve still managed to leave five men on base….
June 7, 2007 at 8:06 pm
4 walks and an error through 3 innings, and we can’t score a run.
Jake isn’t getting his corners, either.
June 7, 2007 at 8:13 pm
C’mon boys, lets get it going…We need to get Jake some run support here.
June 7, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Not the best pitchout I’ve ever seen…
June 7, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Looks like Kuo isn’t gettting them either… good deal.
Oh, nice pitch-out there!
June 7, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Guys must hate to play defense behind Kuo.
June 7, 2007 at 8:20 pm
For someone who can’t find the plate to save his life, Kuo sure is getting a lot of calls.
June 7, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Boca. Chica.
June 7, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Yes, it was Tony. Oh hell yeah, Jake!
June 7, 2007 at 8:21 pm
And Jake once again gets tired of waiting for someone else to drive in a run.
June 7, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Way to do it yourself Jake!!!
June 7, 2007 at 8:28 pm
46: Kuo is getting almost every questionnable pitch, while Jake has gotten none. Makes a ton of sense, given the pinpoint control Kuo has demonstrated this evening.
June 7, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Jake’s throwing a lot of offspeed stuff tonite. He doesn’t look quite himself.
June 7, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Right, NOW SCORE RUNS!
June 7, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Seeing the replay of Peavy’s double on baseball tonight, it seems so reminiscent of the homer off Penny last year after the all-star break, doesn’t it? Very similar swings.
June 7, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Damn, great throw by Cruz hits Ethier in the foot on his way back to first. Shoulda been a DP.
June 7, 2007 at 9:00 pm
When Peavy gives up a run this year, it’s a bad game. Of course, if the Padres score a run, it’s a good game. Which brings to mind the question: What would Jake’s ERA be, if he pitched a season’s worth of games against the Padre offense???
June 7, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Good question, Lance. I can’t count that low.
June 7, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Where the hell did that 2-2 pitch miss?
June 7, 2007 at 9:04 pm
This is some shitty strike calling tonite. Absolutely one sided.
June 7, 2007 at 9:08 pm
#58: I dunno, but it just gave LA the lead.
June 7, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Why doesn’t this surprise me?
June 7, 2007 at 9:09 pm
This doesn’t look good. At least we’ll take the series.
June 7, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Nice to see the home plate umpire decide that the Padres don’t deserve to win this game. Thanks for calling it right down the middle, you AAA hack.
June 7, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I saw this matchup and thought we were due for this kinda outcome.
June 7, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Valverde blows his first save of the year as Pedro Feliz ties it against the D-Bags in the ninth! Finally!
June 7, 2007 at 9:11 pm
62: All three of those runs are on the home plate umpire. Someboy with Tivo, go back and look at the 2-2 and 3-2 pitches to Betemit. Total freaking crap.
June 7, 2007 at 9:11 pm
65: great news! For a moment I thought that the only consolation was that we got Jake out of there with his ERA still below 2.00 (not much consolation, and not guaranteed if we let the inherited runner score)…..
June 7, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Bad deal… Jake could have been out of this without the hit runner. Bad luck, but it ain’t over.
June 7, 2007 at 9:13 pm
I would strangle Vin Scully right now for his whole, “Peavy got tired, Buddy shouldn’t have left him in so long” shtick.
Peavy struck out Betemit on the 2-2 and 3-2 pitches. Anthony, would it be possible to do a blog posting on how badly Jake got hosed tonite?
June 7, 2007 at 9:14 pm
68: He didn’t hit the runner.
June 7, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Did the plate umpire read my musings on Jake’s ERA?!? I’ll think twice before posting anything like that again!
June 7, 2007 at 9:15 pm
70: Nevermind, I remember the Cruz play now. My bad.
I’m just ridiculously pissed off right now. Jake had this game taken from him and it just sickens me to see the balls and strikes that Dodgers pitchers have gotten versus Padres pitchers.
June 7, 2007 at 9:16 pm
70: I think he’s referring to Jose Cruz hitting Ethier with his “double-up” attempt on the fly ball from Brady Clark. That would have been the 3rd out…..
June 7, 2007 at 9:16 pm
We’re headed to the bottom of 9 in Phoenix, still 4-4. I’ll keep everyone posted.
June 7, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Tony Clark strikes out for out #1…1-0 count to Byrnes, who’s 3-4.
June 7, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Byrnes flies to Klesko, out #2.
June 7, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Quentin fans, and we head to the 10th…
June 7, 2007 at 9:22 pm
72: No worries, I get the frustration.
As a Padre fan transplanted to AZ, i only wish they had the same passion here. Talked to a guy who was gifted 5th row dugout seats at the 1-0 ‘D-Bags’ win last night & said it was a ‘crappy game’.
I could only shake my head….
June 7, 2007 at 9:25 pm
78: The fans in Arizona appear to be terrible. The entire upper tank (save for the first couple of rows) is empty, and there are empties interspersed throughout the entire lower bowl. Pathetic.
June 7, 2007 at 9:25 pm
I’m just disgusted with how the balls and strikes have been called tonite. Every borderline pitch has gone in favor of the Dodgers (whether that’s a called K on Padres hitters or a ball for Dodgers hitters). It’s hard enough when your team stuggles offensively to also have to play against the home plate umpire.
June 7, 2007 at 9:26 pm
Great. Cla continues his struggles.
June 7, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Are you kidding me? Bonds grounds into a freaking double play to end the inning.
June 7, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Where are the rally caps?
June 7, 2007 at 9:32 pm
2 down in Arizona…Chris Young coming to the plate.
June 7, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Wow…Young misses yet another walk-off shot by about four feet - just to the left of the pole.
June 7, 2007 at 9:34 pm
79: I’ve a hard time with the ‘terrible fan’ rap in AZ, as just about everyone here is from someplace else… usually from the east. I think it’s a lack of identity thing, along with having the 4 majors without the economy to support it.
But that’s just me guess…
Anyway, at least we took 2 of 3 in this series against the Dodgers!
June 7, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Wow, and the home plate umpire continues to favor the Dodgers. Thanks a ton blue.
June 7, 2007 at 9:35 pm
Young strikes out…we head to the 11th.
June 7, 2007 at 9:36 pm
That last pitch to Cammy was clearly down.
June 7, 2007 at 9:37 pm
87: I’m with you now. I can’t see how Cameron get’s called out on a pitch worse than the 2-2 to Betemit…
June 7, 2007 at 9:37 pm
I guess they’re making up for last night’s called strike against Martin.
June 7, 2007 at 9:39 pm
91: Unfortuantely, they’ve been making up for it all damn nite. I don’t know if there’s a way to request Friar Watch posts, but I’d really like to see the borderline pitches for Padres hitters vs. Dodgers hitters.
I’m glad someone else can see that I’m not just spouting homeristic vitriol. We’re legit getting screwed by the ump tonite. No doubt.
June 7, 2007 at 9:40 pm
91: I’m glad someone else can see that I’m not just spouting homeristic vitriol. We’re legit getting screwed by the ump tonite. No doubt.
You are
But I think you have a legit complaint. I wonder what the folks at Dodger Thoughts think?
June 7, 2007 at 9:43 pm
93: I try to be level-headed, but I’ve sent my pets scattering about 8 times tonite. I really can’t stand to be taken out of games (especially against the Dodgers) when our guys are playing hard.
June 7, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Hopefully the Padres can bounce back tomorrow and take another series from the Mariners.
The glass half-full part of me says we should be happy about taking 2 of 3 from the Dodgers and getting up on them in the race.
The glass half-empty is furious about the game and is equally upset that everyone the D’backs play decide to suck for that series.
June 7, 2007 at 9:48 pm
The Giants now lead 5-4 in Phoenix…runners on first and second, 3-0 to Winn, 1 out…
June 7, 2007 at 9:49 pm
good news is that the giants have taken the lead in arizona… with only one out and two men on…
June 7, 2007 at 9:49 pm
make that bases loaded.
June 7, 2007 at 9:50 pm
Peavy chart is up at Friar Watch. The umpiring is pretty bad but I not as one-sided as we think, it looks equally crappy to me.
I’m more worried about Jake’s arm. This is the second start in a row where he’s had trouble with his slider, that sounds like elbow trouble to me. Hopefully it’s just fatigue.
June 7, 2007 at 9:51 pm
99: Thanks for the post Anthony, I’ll check it out right away.
June 7, 2007 at 9:52 pm
Silent L actually got on base two nights in a row. Weird voodoo, I think.
June 7, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Unusual screw up for Nomar.
June 7, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Oh god, could we really come back on this?
June 7, 2007 at 9:54 pm
95: The glass neither half empty, nor half full, just twice as big as needs to be.
Two men on!
June 7, 2007 at 9:55 pm
C’mon Crudge. Base knock is all I ask. Let Adrian send it home.
June 7, 2007 at 9:55 pm
OK, there IS some weird voodoo definately going on.
June 7, 2007 at 9:55 pm
C’mon P-Mac, make him throw you good pitches. If he grooves one, make him pay…
June 7, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Going to the bottom of the inning in Phoenix after the Giants leave them loaded…still Giants 5, D-Bags 4.
June 7, 2007 at 9:57 pm
HOLY FREAKING CRAP!!!! SEND IT HOME ADRIAN!!!
June 7, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Oh P-Mac! Sweet!
