IGD: Padres @ Nationals (3 Jun 07)
Sun, Jun 3, 2007by Geoff Young
first pitch: 10:35 a.m. PT
television: Channel 4SD
matchup: David Wells (2-3, 4.74 ERA) vs Jason Simontacchi (2-3, 5.28 ERA)
I honestly had no idea Jason Simontacchi was still pitching in the big leagues. That’s okay, some people probably don’t know that David Wells is still pitching…

Hopefully the Pads can get Boomer some runs today….
June 3, 2007 at 10:14 am
It’s 1:15PM, and the tarp is still on the field here in DC. Been raining all morning, and it’s anticipated to rain on and off throughout the afternoon.
June 3, 2007 at 10:18 am
Ah, and now they are pulling the tarp off the field! Let the game begin!
June 3, 2007 at 10:31 am
It’s 12:30 PM somewhere in the world, let’s have a beer and a win.
June 3, 2007 at 10:33 am
Would sure be nice if Wellsy could get some of the early love that Justin got yesterday…
June 3, 2007 at 10:33 am
Nice *almost* laugher game yesterday. I just hope our bats can support Boomer like that today. I guess it will be a little slickery in the outfield. May be interesting.
June 3, 2007 at 10:35 am
NOG with a nice start.
June 3, 2007 at 10:36 am
I hate that ballpark. It is almost as bad as Joe Robbie/Dolphin/Pro Player…
Way to start us off NOG!
June 3, 2007 at 10:37 am
Girly Mouth in center today batting 8th. Sledge laid down a great bunt and the Nats eff’d it up to our credit.
June 3, 2007 at 10:37 am
Nats are fortunate Simontacchi didn’t make the throw to first on that play. Nobody covering. This is some of the worst defense I’ve ever seen at the big-league level the past couple days.
June 3, 2007 at 10:39 am
Yahoo Bardo!!!
June 3, 2007 at 10:39 am
EARLY LOVE!
June 3, 2007 at 10:39 am
Heck yeah!
June 3, 2007 at 10:39 am
10: Good morning Geoff. You are right and fortunate for us, you think?
Bard just made this seem like de jevu’ all over again.
June 3, 2007 at 10:40 am
Bard is just on fire since the other night… maybe that’s what he needed. (Please be aware that Matty didn’t start talking until after I started typing *wink*)
June 3, 2007 at 10:41 am
Well, it’s not 6, but 3 makes me happy. How ’bout you?
June 3, 2007 at 10:41 am
Is there something wrong with Mike Cameron? Bocachica came in in the middle of the game yesterday for him, and now he’s not starting tonight.
June 3, 2007 at 10:42 am
I hope we can get this game in today. Even the outs that inning were fairly well struck.
June 3, 2007 at 10:43 am
OT: Too bad USD lost last night. From the highlights it looks like they gave it there best.
June 3, 2007 at 10:45 am
18: They play football in mud, why not BB? lol
June 3, 2007 at 10:47 am
I don’t think we are gonna see a finished game today.
June 3, 2007 at 10:50 am
17: The Nats announcers said Cameron has a tight hammy, that he’d be playing in dry conditions but not on a wet day.
June 3, 2007 at 11:00 am
Boomer has a nice breaking ball today. C’mon, guys, we need to get three more innings here…
June 3, 2007 at 11:01 am
Bruce Willis is Umping at the plate. LOL. Nice pitching by Boomer.
June 3, 2007 at 11:03 am
OT: GY what size shoe do you wear? My wife found a place that has Padre and Charger Reebocks and got me the Padre pair.
June 3, 2007 at 11:05 am
God, I hope nobody gets hurt in this game.
June 3, 2007 at 11:10 am
I’m really surprised that they went ahead with this game.
According to the Nats annoucners, they’re “doing it for the kids.”
5,000 kids are not worth the potential injuries this gane might bring.
June 3, 2007 at 11:10 am
Who names their kid Nook? Then again, who names their kid Vida?
June 3, 2007 at 11:15 am
Shit! OK, we didn’t need that.
June 3, 2007 at 11:15 am
Crap, tie game.
June 3, 2007 at 11:16 am
Ugh, nice one Boomer.
June 3, 2007 at 11:16 am
And we REALLY didn’t need that, either! He totally crushed that to tie the game.
June 3, 2007 at 11:21 am
Kouz is plunked, told to get back in the box for not attempting to avoid the pitch.
June 3, 2007 at 11:21 am
Kouz looked like he was turning away from that.
June 3, 2007 at 11:22 am
How come we never see that called against Barry “stand and glare while it bounces off my armour” Bonds??????
June 3, 2007 at 11:23 am
Re: Kouz, I don’t know that I have ever seen that before. In the era where guys go up there with armor, the likes of Craig Biggio never make more than the effort of Kouz there.
June 3, 2007 at 11:23 am
Irritating game. We’re making very solid contact against Simontacchi and getting little to show for it.
June 3, 2007 at 11:25 am
“Find the one thing in life that you don’t do well, and don’t do that” eg. don’t take an egg on the arm.
June 3, 2007 at 11:25 am
37: Agreed. We need to hit more line drives though. If someone eats it going after a line drive, you could have a triple or inside-the-parker.
This game is all on Boomer. He let Belliard get a single on a 1-2 pitch and then said to Ryan Zimmerman, “Hey, how far can you hit this?”
June 3, 2007 at 11:25 am
Wells is getting hit hard now.
June 3, 2007 at 11:27 am
40: Since we’re playing the “shortened game philosophy,” we should get Boomer out of there.
June 3, 2007 at 11:35 am
Girlie Mouth with a nice catch.
June 3, 2007 at 11:41 am
Wait a sec, who’s Jack Cust?
June 3, 2007 at 11:42 am
Girlie Mouth breaks out with that over the wall! 1st homer as a Padre.
June 3, 2007 at 11:42 am
Come, one more out and let’s make this thing official, the radar has some heavier rain coming along!
June 3, 2007 at 11:42 am
Zimmerman knows that we need to complete the fifth so he’s wasting time
June 3, 2007 at 11:43 am
Nice to score in the 5th…after this inning, we can end the game at anytime!!
June 3, 2007 at 11:44 am
That should have been an E3, that ball was catchable.
June 3, 2007 at 11:44 am
why is he girly mouth?
June 3, 2007 at 11:46 am
A-GONE!!!!!!!!!!
June 3, 2007 at 11:47 am
Adrian with the knock. Pitching change for the Nats. C’mon, let’s get this thing in before the rain returns.
June 3, 2007 at 11:47 am
49: Bocachica litarally translated from Spanish is Girl Mouth.
June 3, 2007 at 11:49 am
ahhh….totally missed that one. darn you spanish 1 15 years ago.
June 3, 2007 at 11:49 am
I just let my indignation fule a rant… I’d love to get some fresh opinion about it, if any of you are looking at something to do between innings.
http://mvn.com/mlb-padres/
(Hope you don’t mind the self promo, Geoff…)
June 3, 2007 at 11:49 am
I really like Bocachica’s swing. He’s got some pop in that bat. I know he hasn’t had that much success at the big league level offensively but maybe we can catch lightening in a bottle with this guy.
June 3, 2007 at 11:50 am
arrgh..embarrassing typo.
Okay, now let’s get three outs and get official!!!!
June 3, 2007 at 11:53 am
Pursuant to a comment Lynch made a couple days ago… How many of y’all think that KT is just waiting to pull a trigger until the bat that he wants becomes available?
June 3, 2007 at 11:53 am
54: Nice rant. Now, put the knife down and your hands on the wall.
June 3, 2007 at 11:53 am
is it time to pour the gasoline on the infield and throw matches????
June 3, 2007 at 11:55 am
re:58 Thanks! question: Did the Mel brooks reference ring true for you?
June 3, 2007 at 11:57 am
Question: Do the Umps consult the Managers prior to calling the game at 5 innings to ask if they want to continue, or do they just call it?
June 3, 2007 at 11:58 am
#54: Not at all, bud. Reading it now.
#57: Our payroll is down from last year. Just sayin’…
June 3, 2007 at 11:59 am
60: It *is* good to be the King!
June 3, 2007 at 12:00 pm
We need Boomer to not give it right back here.
June 3, 2007 at 12:04 pm
How many balls have they fouled off Wells today, jeez?
June 3, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Girly Mouth is stepping up.
June 3, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Zimmerman got some real good cuts there. Glad to see Boomer keep it (barely) in the park. Another nice play by Bocachica in center. Like what I’m seeing from him…
June 3, 2007 at 12:06 pm
66: Girly Mouth is making some nice plays out there today. He hit that wall pretty hard.
June 3, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Hiram is giving it up out there. Nice job! (and that goes for the team watching the waiver wire as well…)
June 3, 2007 at 12:07 pm
Please Oh Lord, don’t let me see Silent L today for it is the Sabbath and baseball is sacred.
June 3, 2007 at 12:09 pm
61: They usually would consult, but they don’t HAVE to… it’s up to them.
June 3, 2007 at 12:10 pm
Mud just said it’s starting rain even harder now.
June 3, 2007 at 12:11 pm
Holy crap! It is really pouring!
June 3, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Girly Mouth almost got another one! This guy seems to be for real.
June 3, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Whoa, Bocachica has some serious pop. That thing almost left yard, too. As Rich says, nice pickup.
June 3, 2007 at 12:15 pm
“And in the morning, I’m making waffles!” -Donkey
June 3, 2007 at 12:18 pm
Almost a spectacular play by Khalil.
June 3, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Nice catch and throw by Khalil. Too bad it didn’t hit the mark. Still impressive nontheless.
June 3, 2007 at 12:20 pm
He just did the same thing, but hit his mark this time. I still want him to marry my daughter.
June 3, 2007 at 12:22 pm
It’s always nice to see Branyan coming in.
June 3, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Shit. He almost went yard with that!
June 3, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Sledge with a nice ducksnort.
June 3, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Holding Giles there is all about avoiding injury, I would think…
June 3, 2007 at 12:28 pm
This is a piss poor decision by the Nats in my opinion. Load the bases to go after Bard. WTF?
June 3, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Again, that looked like yard. Nice sac to make it 7-3.
June 3, 2007 at 12:29 pm
On a day where the air is not soaked, they might have paid worse for that decision, too…
June 3, 2007 at 12:30 pm
We are hitting the ball extremely well today. Beyond the damage actually done, Bocachica, Branyan, and Kouz all have flirted with home runs.
June 3, 2007 at 12:30 pm
As the boys on TV said, Sledge is having himself a nice little series. It would be nice, obviously, if he can keep that up.
June 3, 2007 at 12:41 pm
Damn, I was hoping for a dp.
June 3, 2007 at 12:43 pm
There’s the dp I was hoping for!
June 3, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Beautiful 6-4-3 DP to end the seventh.
Props to the grounds crew for keeping the field reasonably playable today.
June 3, 2007 at 12:46 pm
K.Greene might have saved 3 runs in this series. You should hear Don Sutton rave about him on MASN.
June 3, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Grrrrrrrrr
June 3, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Mark hasn’t a clue. Just like “pico de gallo” is beak of a rooster.
June 3, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Khalil drove one to the center field wall in the eighth. Great to see the boys making solid contact.
June 3, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Bocachica is mouth of a young girl.
June 3, 2007 at 12:57 pm
88.Think he views Hiram’s arrival as a motivator? *wink*
June 3, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Good wet ballgame.
June 3, 2007 at 1:18 pm
Ho hum, another series win. Time to mow the lawn. Have a nice rest of the weekend, folks!
June 3, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Later Geoff.
June 3, 2007 at 1:21 pm
Chica/o is often used as an adjective to mean small. I have a feeling Bocachica comes from “Small Mouth” and not girl’s mouth. Probably a reference to a bay somewhere, like Boca Raton, Florida is called that ‘cuz it’s a bay that looks like a rat’s mouth. Not to be a stickler, but as the official representative of Padres fans living in Mexico City, I thought I should point that out. Nonetheless, Girl’s Mouth is kind of a fun nickname, so I say go with it.
On to the important business. Good win against a bad team. Now lets keep the momentum going against the Bums in Blue.
June 3, 2007 at 2:55 pm
Brian, your’s is the correct translation, but I knew who “Girlie Mouth” was the second I read it.
June 3, 2007 at 3:22 pm
102 … Yo, Lance! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? Bring some spice, dude!

#102: Hey, a Lance sighting. DONG!!! DONG!!! DONG!!! DONG!!! DONG!!!
June 3, 2007 at 4:50 pm

June 3, 2007 at 4:52 pm

I’ve been lurking, but haven’t found time for posting. Time to toss my NL West predictions into the ring:
Padres 92-70
Dodgers 90-72
D-Backs 89-73
