Go figure that after I defend Linebrink he goes and blows two holds. Thanks Scott for making me look like a fool. The sickness seems to be spreading through the bullpen reliever by reliever and Pepe doesn’t know how to adjust his usage of the players until it’s too late.

181: AT&T seems to do that to our offense. I’m almost positive that all of our runs in this season’s opening series were also scored off homeruns. It was the first thing I thought of when I pulled up the game report this morning.

Hope Maddux is on tonight for the rubber match.

So I was at the game tonight, and as Hoffy’s announced, I stand up (and play Hells Bells on my phone, but that’s neither here nor there). A Giants fan form behind me yells “sit down!” I ask “Oh, am I in your way?” (completely sincerely, as I’ll sit if I’m in his way, but I won’t sit if I’m just annoying him because the best closer in baseball just took the mound). I sit, and after two outs, I’m back up. His friend thinks I’m disrespecting him and he comes and sucker punches me! (ok, it was a sucker-slap in the face, but still). I was stunned. I got an usher to take him out, but the absurdity has made me hate the Giants more than I hate I hate the Dodgers, which is quite remarkable. Maybe I’ll cool off tomorrow.

209: My impression is that a lot of the one run losses (especially the extra inning variety) involve the offense not being able to get across that one extra run. The bullpen gets extended and eventually fails because the offense just doesn’t get it done. Tonight Kooz got it done. If he doesn’t go deep we don’t see Trevor close it out and there’s a good chance we lose the game.

I guess you could call it luck but there is an element of offensive futility in there somewhere. In my mind, calling it luck somehow absolves the team of the responsibility to improve the situation.
