112: I think that we've got to send Headley back down and take the long-term perspective. If he's not going to play everyday, he's not going to get better. If you'd like to talk about putting him in LF full time, that's a conversation that I'd entertain.

117: I'm pretty sure that Brocail isn't going to be worth much of a prospect...

By the way, did anyone see Prince Fielder hit the inside-the-park HR tonight? Wow, that big man can move.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Re:112

I would like to narrow the pitching staff down to 11 as well.

I think that the only way to justify keeping Headley at the Major league level is to, at the very least, platoon him at third. Otherwise, I think he deserves to be at the AA All-star game.

How about trading Brocail for a prospect?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Today the Padres showed Soriano five times how to react to hitting a HR. I don't like to be overly sensitive type but that was pretty bush and I think Soriano's defense in the papers was pretty lame. "I've always done that," to paraphrase. Doesn't mean it's suddenly become offensive to some players. Does anyone else do that - backpedal?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Can someone tell me why the crap Arizona is playing the Orioles twice? And the Dodgers play the Blue Jays twice?

http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=bal
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=la

Hey here's an idea MLB Schedulers, have the Orioles play the Diamondbacks once, then have them play the Dodgers once. And THEN have the Blue Jays play the Diamondbacks once and then play the Dodgers once.

Stupid schedulers.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

111: Did you see the link in 2? It sounds like he's getting pretty close. I'd like to see Hampson sent down when OG comes off the DL and retain Headley to be the right handed bench bat. I could see arguments that that would be bad for his development and that he should be sent down to get regular playing time, but if we just focus on this year I think that gives us the best roster possible. What will probably happen is Headley going back down.

Lending credence to the argument that we haven't really started firing on all cylinders is the Predicted OPS stat from the hardball times. It predicts what OPS for a player should be given his batted ball types and his walk, strikeout, and home run rates. Most of the Padres are underperforming their expected lines by a decent amount. Cruz, Adrian, and Bowen are the only guys with significant playing time overperforming.

Don't hold your breath on OG coming back anytime soon.

His mysterious bone bruise won't be healed for another three weeks, at th earliest.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I like CB -- he's made some really nice plays for us so far. I didn't know he can play 2nd and 3rd. That's a pretty useful guy right there.
When OG comes back, maybe P Mac is the odd one out. I don't know, but he just seems to always be the one.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
