Hey guys. Crazy trade idea. Let's trade for Lastings Milledge. He's young (he turned 22 at the beginning of April), has a lot of upside, was projected by PECOTA for a .289/.359/.476 equivalent line this year in the majors, and is majorly out of favor in New York now. He can play center field (I think), so he could be a long term option in center, or he could be a good long term option in left too. I have no idea what it would take to acquire him, and obviously it's never going to happen, but it's nice to dream.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Whenever I read about the Cust trade from a non-San Diego source, it says the Padres sold Cust to the A's. Are they getting cash for him and not a PTBNL?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

OK, here's an idea for the PLTBNL for Cust ... JJ Furmaniak ... http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Furmaniak%2520%2520SS&pos=&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=434583 ... he's hitting .302 .402 .547 in 184 PAs while playing SS for the A's AAA club in Sacramento ... he's a former Padre farmhand (Padres drafted him in 22nd round in 2000) ...

You got a better idea?
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Here's Portland Beavers Game Notes ... http://portlandbeavers.com.ismmedia.com/ISM3/std-content/repos/Top/Game%20Notes/05.21.07.pdf ... nothing there about Stansberry except for noting that he's gone hitless in 3 straight games ... so perhaps just getting a night off ...

Other notes of interest ...

- Michael Johnson was "promoted" from AA to AAA on May 11th
- Stauffer spent end of April on the DL with a sprained ankle
- Scott Strickland was released on May 15th
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

In the interests of "full disclosure", here's Blum's May stats ... .368 .400 .684 in 20 PAs ... eh, he needs to be gone ... if we could trade McAnulty for a utility backup infielder who would enable us to cut Blum (ie. someone that can play SS and hit for a .750 OPS), then I'd be all for it ...

ps. Now that I look at the #s, I'd say Cruz has "started to cool off" also ... his May #s are .196 .258 .268 in 61 PAs ... ya, that's cool ...

So, JC, what does "cool" mean? 100 PAs at sub-600 OPS? 200 PAs? I'm all for patience ... and McAnulty's not "on fire" (even in May) ... but still ... the current trend favors McAnulty over Sledge *and* Cruz ... imo.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

27 ... I think Pete will let us know about McAnulty, right Pete? Or do we need to say "please"?

25 ... good point with the May numbers ... doing the same thing for KK is interesting ... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7864/splits;_ylt=AppxQunNh6IhEDzGuDD00RyFCLcF ... 324 .396 .514 in 43 PAs ... now that's what we traded for!

24 ... "LE" = Portland ... re: "if Sledge starts to cool down" ... you mean .148 .233 .333 in 29 PAs in May doesn't count as cool? Uh oh! Not that his full season #s are much better (203 .330 .392). I don't see much of the action ... but it sounds like the folks that do are complaining about his defense ... and if that's the case, then I think you can see why I asked about McAnulty (#19) ... McAnulty sure seems like he'd have done better with Sledge's 86 PAs ...

24 ... OK, good point about getting Freese moved up to AA ... but it's not clear that what he's doing is really demanding a call up to AA ... 287 .383 .476 is good ... but it's a bit inflated by CalLeague park factors ... so I'm thinking he's good for a full year at HighA ... I know he's "old", but otherwise not sure what the rush is ... my money is still on KK being the long-term solution at 3B ... so both Freese and Headley are going to have to go elsewhere (either on the field or to another org) if they turn out to be more than backups ... which would be good (ie. I hope so, and I think it's possible for both of them) ...

23 ... sure doesn't seem like they could get much for McAnulty in trade ... more than Cust? Perhaps ... but I'll bet our PTBNL isn't a valuable player. The best that could be hoped for would be a middle reliever that the Padres have proven good at identifying ... but at this point, I gotta believe that McAnulty is more valuable to the Padres than another good reliever ...
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

18: He's supposedly fully healed from those injuries and he still looks like he's playing Pin the Tail on Mike Cameron sometimes. And I like Sledge, but Pmac's defense was a lot better than advertised last year and this spring.

The point with the relievers is that if Pmac loses his prospect status because he's not going to fill a starting role, we can eliminate almost all pitchers in our system as prospects. He is what he is, a high-OBP, moderate power LF or 1b. Our not having a spot for him doesn't make him less of a prospect. There are many lesser players on major league clubs.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
