Thanks, folks. Glad you enjoyed the discussion!

Two quick points on Cust:

1) This is his second trip the A's; he spent '05 at Triple-A Sacramento before signing with the Pads.
2) Shameless plug: Anyone concerned about KT's trading abilities needs to read my book. :-)

Great idea and great execution! It's good to see the SD Blog community is so fraternal. The idea of adding a Padres exec is an excellent one and seems like a reasonable possibility given DePo's interview with Gaslamp Ball and Alderson's forward of the DS Annual. They clearly recognize the value of being involved with the blogging community.

Nice work GY and all of the others, too!

I don't really care what we get back for Cust (he wasn't very valuable to us as yet another left-handed pinch hitter with no defensive ability), I'm just excited that he'll get a chance to be an everyday player with a team that will actually appreciate his abilities.

And the round table is really cool.

22. The only trade I can think off of offhand on the deal being tied to the player's performance was last year when the Padres traded Greg Sain to the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later in spring training.

The Brewers ended up cutting Sain after a few weeks and no one to my knowledge came over from the Brewers organization.

14.

Yep, though Ichiro! is declining, I think he can still play CF (Pinto has him rated higher than Cameron last year), he solves the leadoff problem and his swing and speed are tailor made for Petco.

Plus, SD has a pretty nice sized Asian population. I'm not sure if this still happens, but on Ichiro's! first few swings around the league, large numbers of Asians would come to the park seemingly only to root for him individually.
