I really think there is a good side to all these close wins and loses. Nobody is hitting so well that they will come back to earth and a bunch of guys are below where they should be. The pitching staff is great and there is no reason to expect a hiccup. A bit more hitting out of Cameron, Kouz and Greene and the Padres could reel off a big 15-5 or so streak.

ESPN featured the pads reds and showed that exact pitch. Looked like a strike but KK walked to first. Reds are snake bit, padres are currently charmed. I'll take it, enjoy the off day.

Yeah it was a strike. The replay showed it, Gameday shows it and Kouz kind of smiled a little after the game when he said it was a very good pitch. We’ll take it.

Whatever Kouz was battling I think he’s over it. I don’t expect him to hit .330 the rest of the way but he’s at least going to be a normal major leaguer and not hit .110 on the year.

I feel dirty. That was a strike. I still think they would’ve won but … wow. I’ll take it. I’d prefer a perfectly placed bleeder or a, uh, ducksnort.

Just got back from the game. A few quick thoughts:

–As Rich notes in #87, Jake did a nice job tonight. After the first inning, I thought he’d struggle to go five, but he settled down big time.
–It’s great to see those line drives finally starting to fall for Kouz. I love the fact that he’s never gotten down on himself or taken his at-bats into the field. I haven’t watched the replay yet, and I don’t know where that final pitch from Arroyo missed, but Kouz battled to draw the walk. I’m feeling real good about him.
–It’s ironic that our inability to lay down a bunt twice in the ninth ended up winning the game for us. I’d still like to see us work on that, but for now we’ll take it.
–Linebrink has looked fantastic the past few times out.
–I like that we managed to capitalize on both of the Reds’ errors tonight. We don’t always do that.

Aggravating game at times tonight, but ultimately a satisfying victory. Keep winning series, and the rest will fall into place…

To answer anyway… this is a game that will humble you in many, many ways. So, no we shouldn’t, even if it were true. And the umpire says you’re wrong about the last one and his opinion is the only one that matters now.

Hmmm, this is an interesting fact …

Hoffman’s strikeout of Alex Gonzalez in the ninth inning was his 952nd with San Diego, moving him into second on the franchise list. He is one ahead of Eric Show. Andy Benes holds the club record with 1,036 strikeouts.

… not sure it’s a “fun fact” … as it says something about the starters in Padre history (a fact made evident in GY’s book, also).
