11: Doesn’t the starting pitcher get to decide which uniforms to wear? That really is a bad look, they should just quietly retire the sand tops.
May 4, 2007 at 4:51 pm
21: Yes.
May 4, 2007 at 4:52 pm
21:yes the staring pitcher picks the uniform for the game
May 4, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Atlanta just scored! 2-0
May 4, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Not sure Willis dominating the Pads is such a surprise, not that many AB’s from him….and they always seem to start slowly after heading back east
May 4, 2007 at 5:01 pm
ok the Marlins park is full of dogs … “bark at the park night ” and they are giving away gifts from Petco …. find that a bit amuzing as they are playing the Padres
May 4, 2007 at 5:05 pm
26: Does that mean we’ll have Fish Taco night when the Marlins come to San Diego?
May 4, 2007 at 5:20 pm
I like Greene as much as anybody, but a player like Hanley would be huge for this team in Petco
May 4, 2007 at 5:22 pm
29: Didn’t the Marlins trade Beckett for H Ram? We’d have to trade Peavy to get a guy like that. Or scout, draft, sign and develop our own. Both options are equally likely, unfortunately.
May 4, 2007 at 5:26 pm
I wouldn’t count against Fuson just yet, the guy does have some nice history…the last 2 drafts have been much improved over the prior years
May 4, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Beckett for HRam and Anibel Sanchez, he of the no-no in ‘06, right?
May 4, 2007 at 5:28 pm
Maddux is doing a nice job limiting the damage on a night when he’s really hittable. Keeping this thing in reach…hopefully we can make it pay off
May 4, 2007 at 5:31 pm

May 4, 2007 at 5:32 pm

May 4, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Hard line out or soft by Kouz?
May 4, 2007 at 5:49 pm
That’s the inning to have after your team hangs a four spot. You’re out. You’re out. You’re out.
May 4, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Ok My wife has nicknames for our starting rotation whaddya think?
Jake Peavy - Pee Weavy
Chris Young - Rod “Forever Young” Stewart
Clay Hensly - Cutie Pants
Greg Maddux - Papa Maddux
David Wells - Tubby Wells
May 4, 2007 at 5:56 pm
40: hard line out
42: tell her not to go into the PR world for MLB
May 4, 2007 at 5:58 pm
43: Thanks. His ABs are definitely looking better.
May 4, 2007 at 5:59 pm
42: Those sound like smurfs, not ballplayers
May 4, 2007 at 6:02 pm
44: yes when he connects it is not cheep …. The guys are really supporting him .. OG seams to be one of his biggest team supporters … as well as guys outside the team .. Nevin has talked to him several times ….

The big boy Taco comes to the mound
May 4, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Don’t like the way this inning is starting…
May 4, 2007 at 6:09 pm
That looked a lot more like strike three than ball four to me. But I haven’t seen a replay or anything. Anybody else get a better look at it?
May 4, 2007 at 6:10 pm
That was a huge out.
May 4, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Cabrerra may have been 4 - 8 against Bell … but he is sitting down now … nicccceeee
May 4, 2007 at 6:12 pm
and the G’s have it ….. greene to giles to gonzales
May 4, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Wow - nice recovery by Taco! Suh-weet!
May 4, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Atlanta is up 4-0 over the Dodgers.
May 4, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Greene got lucky on that one.
May 4, 2007 at 6:23 pm
I think I’d rather have hitting problems (like the Padres) than pitching problems (like the Yankees, who were up 5-0 on the Mariners, and now trail 14-8 … yikes!) …
May 4, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Again Bell only 1 IP … wonder what the pro’s & con’s are of 1 IP per outing vs 2 IP?
May 4, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Back to back solo HRs. This isn’t good.
May 4, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Well, there are 2 con’s right there, I s’pose …
May 4, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Cla … are you ready?
May 4, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Not a pretty sight to come home to after hearing about the comeback. Here’s where Linebrink’s cemented role as 8th inning guy comes back to bite us in the you know what.
May 4, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Cla pitched two innings Wednesday didn’t he? He probably wasn’t available.
May 4, 2007 at 6:35 pm
63: He’s on the 15 day DL as of today.
May 4, 2007 at 6:37 pm
That’s Clay Hensley you are talking about right? I was referring to Cla’ Meredith.
May 4, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Gee, think we’ll see Blum bat with two outs and down by one….
May 4, 2007 at 6:39 pm
65: Oh, my bad. Yeah, Hensley.
May 4, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Ack!
May 4, 2007 at 6:40 pm
That’s a horrible way to start an important road trip. In line to win a game that on paper might have favored your opponent and you blow it. Thanks Scotty.
May 4, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Wow … Robles and Blum hitting in 9th inning down by one … that *really* hurts … not sure how to square that with my comment in #57 … both seem tragic at this moment …
May 4, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Wow, talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…
May 4, 2007 at 6:45 pm
LM, I agree. Even as bad as Kouz has been I would have rather taken the chance that his bat runs into a fastball and he ties it up with one swing. After Cameron struck out, we were left with the unlikely prospect of manufacturing a run with Robles and Blum.
May 4, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Wonder how many at bats the beloved Blum gets this year before the Pads waive him. He’s brutal.
May 4, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Wow, Linebrink stunk again. Where should this guy rank in the bullpen? Obviously, his trade value isn’t all that great.
May 4, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Linebrink has served up 4 homers in 14+ innings.
May 4, 2007 at 6:51 pm
What is Bud’s thinking? I’ve not listened to any of his post-game press conferences that are posted on mlb.com … perhaps I should … but I can not imagine the thinking of sending up Robles and Blum in that situation … Blus is 2-for-24 now vs RHP … that’s *A LOT* of outs??? Was Sledge not available? I just gotta believe that KK is a better choice for an AB … and Bowen’s better (barely) … and even Peavy’s a better choice … isn’t Branyan back?
May 4, 2007 at 6:52 pm
I am getting a bit tired of the positioning of pitchers in their designated innings (ie-Linebrink ALWAYS throwing in the 8th). By the way, Linebrink has now served up 4 in homeruns in 14+ innings. After serving up 9 homeruns last year in 75 innings.
May 4, 2007 at 6:52 pm
76 … never mind about Sledge … now I see he PH’d earlier …
May 4, 2007 at 6:54 pm
We saved our bullpen an inning of work by losing … is that of any value?
May 4, 2007 at 7:05 pm
76: good point about Branyan, he must not have made it back yet. If you are going to send up a left hander to PH in a one run ballgame, why not the one guy who could tie it with one swing. That guy’s name is not Robles, and obviously not “World Series Hero” (TM) Geoff Blum.
May 4, 2007 at 7:05 pm
A nice look at Heath Bell … http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com.....mp;c_id=sd … in case you haven’t heard/read his story yet …
May 4, 2007 at 7:58 pm
It’s a bit scary to me that McAnulty is only hitting .216 at AAA Portland so far … http://web.minorleaguebaseball.....a_poraaa_1 … it’s only 51 ABs … but still … man, I gotta stop whining … sorry … Blown Saves do that to me …
May 4, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Good news for “old men” … I’m 48 … a man older than me (by ~3 months) hit a HR off Randy Johnson tonight … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=270504129 … that makes me SMILE
May 4, 2007 at 8:42 pm
82 … more good news … since my post, McAnulty is 2-for-2 and has his average up to .245 … and Vince Sinisi hit HR #3 (now hitting .340, seems like his name was mentioned along the lines of: Padres don’t need both Cust and Sinisi … which hadn’t ocurred to me based on 2006 … but Vince seems to be doing well in the early going @ AAA this season).
May 4, 2007 at 8:50 pm
interesting… current closer for the Royals is a Padres rule V pickup… seems to be doing a good job (sorry, too lazy to get his name.. something like Joakim Soria or something)…. wonder why he is a complete unknown to padres fans like me?
May 4, 2007 at 9:52 pm
85 … don’t know his whole story … but he only pitched 11.2 innings last year for LoA Ft Wayne … http://www.thebaseballcube.com.....oria.shtml … as a 22 year old … his only previous experience was in 2002 with the GCL Dodgers … no tellin’ …
May 5, 2007 at 3:45 am
I believe Soria got noticed for the Rule V draft by tearing up the Mexican Winter League.
