Good point about Linebrink/Giles, but I think we gained much leverage in negotiations to sign Giles by having offered Walker arbitration - and thereby a second baseman in place. Maybe saved 500K on the Giles contract. Also, after trading Barfield it made fan base sense to have something in place at second. The world, and much of the Universe, believed we'd win the arbitration with Walker, and then he'd be tradeworthy and we'd be out very little, if anything. All went south when we lost arbitration. Walker's making it easier to cut him by playing poorly this spring, and Mac's play certainly greases the skids to move him to the 25 - and argue that he simply beat out Walker for the last spot. Can't imagine how the Union could contend otherwise and make it stick. The argument would be a lock if Branyan could manage back to back homers.

I was stoked to see my copy of the book arrive today as well.

So far, I like what I see. I'm leafing thru a few pages just out of sheer excitement. Needless to say, by the weekend I should be able to really sit down and give it some attention.

Awesome outing by Hensley, and we had another Cedric Hunter sighting! Where's Peter? He drew a walk and scored a run.

I just received my copy of the book as well. Top notch job by lulu.com on the printing and packaging and of course the book is jammed full of Geoff's great writing. If anyone is on the fence, go ahead and order a copy. It reminds me a lot of a team-specific Baseball Abstract.

THT again giving the Pad's some attention. This time an article on players that are "more game than name" lists Bard as the catcher of this lineup. I love this quote form the story "The Pads pantsed Boston".

Just got the book on the East Coast. Fast delivery. Great comments from Sandy Alderson in the forward... but I won't give any spoilers.

The #1 reason the comments might not be as busy is because everyone is grabbing and reading your book.
