Help Wanted

There is no great writing, only great rewriting.

Are we there yet?

I have a small favor to ask. I’ve got three chapters that need a good read through, and I could use your help. One is on the ‘98 season, one is on Gwynn’s 3000th hit, and one is on Kevin Towers’ trade record. The first two run roughly 25 pages combined, while the latter is that long on its own. I’ll need a fairly quick turnaround — the end of the weekend, if possible — so it would be great if we could split up the work.
If interested and available, please drop me a line. You will have my undying gratitude.
For everyone else, here are a couple of fantastic reads:
- Gaslamp Ball Interview with Paul DePodesta Part I
- Hall Watch Retrospective- Goose Gossage (Batter’s Box)
Enjoy!

More confirmation of the unpleasant sort: in his organizational prospect rankings, Kevin Goldstein at BP has the Padres checking in at #29 (subscription required):

Perhaps as distressing, three of the Padres four divison rivals are in the top 6 of these rankings (Rockies #2, Dodgers #5, D’backs #6, Giants #17). Until the situation improves, we’ll need to hope that the rest of the division squanders this advantage a la Colletti.

The good news is that the Dodgers have proven to be pretty silly since 1988, the Rockies still don’t understand how to win consistantly, and the Giants have set themselves up to be the 2000’s version of the mid-1980’s Yankees…
The bad news is that the Diamondbacks may well be positioned to be a powerhouse in the NL for the next 5 years…At least they are not purple anymore!!!
