Pitchers peak later than hitters, so Young still has some improvement left in him, but you're right, Jake still has more...

I have no idea about Iwamura...
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Peter, you have to think that with his age and past numbers, that this is as good (or close to it) as CY will get...conversely, JP may actually get better than he has shown.

Also, I like to dream of another tall LHP (no, not in THAT way), Andy Pettite.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Is Iwamura a righty batter at least?

Couldn't hurt to take a shot at him...
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Iwamura: .312/.388/.552 140 games 529 AB, 84 R, 165 H, 27 2B, 2 3B, 32 HR, 77 RBI, 67 BB, 124 SO, 8 SB, 1 CS, 11 E

Interesting stats, I'm not sold on the guy, but that's b/c of a lack of info...
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Looks like Iwamura, 3b, Yakult Swallows, will be posted.

"Iwamura, who batted .311 this season with 32 home runs, 77 RBIs and 84 runs, is expected to meet with the club president this month, upon which he will receive the official greenlight."

Wow, Chris Young had a great season. I'm excited to see him in Padres' uniform next season.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

One thing that's been very noticeable over the 2006 season is how CY started out throwing fastballs almost exclusively, then after a few months he started mixing in some breaking pitches after the first time through the lineup, then towards the end of the year he had enough confidence to throw the curve from the 1st inning, even starting some batters off with the curve and throwing it as s strikeout pitch. I think this helped him maintain an advantage over the hitters, they may have been expecting fastballs based on scouting reports or previous experience but he made a big adjustment and was almost a different pitcher over the last month or two. If he can develop his command a little more he's going to be one of the top pitchers in the league for years to come.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

It's amazing that Jake was the youngest pitcher on the Padres rotation... I'm beginning to wonder who will be more effective (long-term) Jake or C.Y. I expect a lot more excellence out of Chris in these next few years. I followed Chris while he was in the Texas organization. Jamey Newberg (newbergreport.com) does an excellent job covering the Rangers and I was able to follow Chris's ascent. I am not at all surprised he's doing well, I am a little surprised he's doing THIS well.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
