Confession time: I usually set up these IGDs before I go to work, and this morning I’m way behind schedule thanks to our look at the catching situation, so just pretend I said something witty or insightful here. As always, make yourselves at home and chat like crazy. Go Padres!

Greene will not be in the lineup tonight.

Looks like good news for roto/fantasy players … http://tinyurl.com/pqz5j

What was the reason given for Khalil not playing?
[ I didn't listen to the pregame show ]
August 8, 2006 at 4:20 pm
Khalil is likely still nursing that finger. Traschel is his type of pitcher, no?
August 8, 2006 at 4:20 pm
4 pitches, 2 outs for Woody.
August 8, 2006 at 4:38 pm
BLUMMER!
August 8, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Must be our night if Blum contributes! I’ll take it.
August 8, 2006 at 4:43 pm
Aurilia’s playing 2B and also HR’d tonight
August 8, 2006 at 4:44 pm
Apparently Piazza got a nice reception in NY tonight:

August 8, 2006 at 4:47 pm
Well this isn’t good.
August 8, 2006 at 4:48 pm
DP - sweet.
August 8, 2006 at 5:03 pm
A double off the SS glove, that’s something you don’t see often.
August 8, 2006 at 5:13 pm
Looks like we will need some more runs, Woody seems to be getting hit tonight.
August 8, 2006 at 5:21 pm
He did a great job of getting out of that mess but they’ll get to him at some point.
August 8, 2006 at 5:27 pm
Dodging bullets I tell ya. Speaking of bullets, Agon appears to have hit two good shots tonight. Gamecase shows a deep fly to left-center and a line out sharply to right. Is that accurate?
August 8, 2006 at 5:34 pm
Yeah, he’s swinging the bat well. There’s a real strong wind blowing in , it’s knocking everything down.
August 8, 2006 at 5:49 pm
Pull Woody now before it’s 6 to 2? I can’t believe it, they are warming someone up in the bullpen.
August 8, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Sorry I doubted you Woody. That’s why I am not a coach.
August 8, 2006 at 6:19 pm
Here’s an idea for a new stat … I know many don’t think we need any new stats … but here it is … percentage of innings that a batter comes to the plate in that the team scores a run … so far in this game, David Wright is 100% … that guy’s good!
August 8, 2006 at 6:29 pm
Geez, when did Darren Oliver stop sucking?
August 8, 2006 at 6:36 pm
Wow, nice inning by Brocail …
- C. Beltran grounded out to second
- C. Delgado grounded out to first
- D. Wright struck out looking
… anyone watching? How’d he look?
August 8, 2006 at 6:40 pm
GY … good question (re: Oliver stop sucking) … best as I can tell it was May 18th, 2006 … http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/pl.....ktp7OFCLcF
August 8, 2006 at 6:46 pm
I’ll also say this re: Oliver, he’s 87-79 in MLB coming into 2006 … that don’t suck!
But he suck’d last year at AAA (2 teams) … so it’s not obvious why 2006 seems so non-sucky … seems like the kind of guy KT would dig up …
August 8, 2006 at 6:47 pm
LOL. Thanks, LM. Here’s another one for you: Why are the Mets going to a lefty other than Wagner with two out in the eighth and Gonzo coming to bat? Seems like an obvious 4-out save situation. Let’s hope the decision comes back to haunt the Mets.
August 8, 2006 at 6:48 pm
OTOH, if I’d have picked him up this morning in my roto league, he’d be sucking tonight! The good side of that is that I decided to take-one-for-the-Padres by activating Livan Hernandez
August 8, 2006 at 6:51 pm
Wagner’s gone 2 IP a couple of times … but last time he went 1.1, he BS’d his next outting … I’ve heard rumbles of arm issues all season …
August 8, 2006 at 6:54 pm
Pedro Feliciano - situational lefty (aka LOOGY: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOOGY) … and he did his job vs Adrian!
August 8, 2006 at 6:58 pm
LOOGY trivia … who was the last player who played in the 1970s to play a major league game, 8 days after Rickey Henderson’s final game?
August 8, 2006 at 6:59 pm
Orosco?
August 8, 2006 at 7:03 pm
Bingo … well done, Anthony!
August 8, 2006 at 7:04 pm
He’s probably still pitching in Mexico somewhere.
August 8, 2006 at 7:06 pm
Old LOOGY’s never die … they just slide away!
August 8, 2006 at 7:07 pm
… in relief of Fernando, I’d bet!
August 8, 2006 at 7:08 pm
If you’re Wagner, how do you walk Blum on four pitches?
August 8, 2006 at 7:10 pm
Last chance … Bard’s the man!
August 8, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Now it’s DR’s turn!
- J. Bard singled to left, G. Blum to second
RALLY!
August 8, 2006 at 7:14 pm
You’ve got to score more than 2 runs against that slop Trachsel was throwing up there. We’re not going to beat that bullpen.
August 8, 2006 at 7:14 pm
Tough loss…hitting woes continue.
August 8, 2006 at 7:14 pm
- D. Roberts struck out swinging
… bleh. DR’s splits vs leftys are very good … but Wagner won that AB …
August 8, 2006 at 8:05 pm
Cust & Sledge with 9th-inning HRs for AAA Portland tonight … http://tinyurl.com/n4hnq … off Kerry Lightenberg … remember him?
For Cust, it was his 2nd in the game …
Kottaras with 2 hits (including a triple) … now hitting .281 …
August 8, 2006 at 8:24 pm
Tonight’s game was actually a lot of fun. I was able to get down to the park by the 2nd. after blum homered.
the reception was well for piazza every time.
I have to say a few things:
Willie outmanaged Bochy with the LOOGYs and all.
-Ben Johnson has to bring his hands down.
-Wagner almost blew another one. His fastball is pretty straight.
-Met fans don’ tlike Lastings Milledge and I don’t blame them. He’s a CFer in RF like Cameron. He takes bad routes to balls and he swings too hard.
-ALSO
tonight felt like a playoff atmosphere. and also Met fans are still very very very arrogant and they like to cuss a little (still).
BUt it was a good time at the game spotted a few Padre fans but no DSers found so maybe next time. Anyone going to Thurs game or Wed (I might fenagle a ticket).. I might find a ticket and I’d definately be up for a DS meetup.
August 8, 2006 at 9:15 pm
Did Walker have any chances at 3rd tonight? How is he looking?
What happened with Giles getting caught stealing second? Picked off? Missed hit-and-run? Didn’t hear it. Sounds like that was a key part of the game (2 walks, a double and single — and no runs).
Still, I really like Giles in the #2 spot, especially against righties, and I hope that’ll be his spot next year.
Another change I would like to see Bochy make, although I know it won’t happen this year, is AGon batting clean-up against righthanders. His eye is good enough, he has few bad at-bats, and they’d have to be very careful with him with Piazza batting 5th. He’d see more curveballs, but that would give Cameron a better shot at stealing a base, too. With the Padres just missing that big hit game after game, it’s worth a shot.
August 8, 2006 at 9:34 pm
I think it was a straight steal, I don’t remember if Piazza swung. It seemed to me like they were just trying to stay out of the DP. The throw down was almost perfect and Giles spiked Valentin’s glove to the bag, he definitely paid the price.
I don’t know that Bochy was outmanaged really, the Mets relievers are just damn good. I have to say I disagree with his strategy of always pulling Piazza out early. It would be nice to have his bat in there for one more AB in a tight game.
August 8, 2006 at 9:38 pm
Giles tried to steal one off LoDuca, but got a very bad jump and a good guess would be a missed hit and run.
I don’t mind Giles hitting 2nd but he acts as if he’s afraid to put the ball in play in his swings.
trachsel grounded out to walker, he looked fine there. no problems with Walker. I’m sure at BP they’re gettin out the fungo and smackin gorunders too him.
but I also think it’s apparent that the Padres need another bat.
also I say it felt like the postseasomn because if the Padres made it and the Reds win the WC, it’d be Padres-Mets and probably go like
Young- Pedro
Peavy- Glavine
Williams- Trachsel
August 9, 2006 at 5:51 am
I was pretty angry that Roberts was left in there to face Wagner…but I guess the only bat left on the bench was Bowen (well, and Greene), and that leaves us without a LF if we tie the game.
Sucky.
August 9, 2006 at 8:16 am
Anyway, look for me there tonight - I’ll be easy to find, I’ll be the one wearing Padres attire, as will the wife and child.
Seriously though, we’ll be in the front row of the Loge, about 75% of the way to 3B from home. Should be pretty good seats. If I bring my camera I’ll try to get some good pics, haven’t decided yet if I’m going to.
August 9, 2006 at 8:33 am
what section? I’m far out in LF tonight around sec 30 in the green mezzanine seats. if other people will answer who are going tonight I’d say just meet in a spot behind the stadium.
Have fun with the traffic by the way, I’m taking the train route in. It took us 2innings to get parking, but if you’re not coming from LI it’s usually easier.
August 9, 2006 at 9:01 am
I’m not sure, don’t have the tix on me at the moment…all I remember is it was somewhere inside of 3B, and that it was the front row of the Loge.
Leaving upstate NY around 2 to drive down, hopefully get to check out some BP. I think I should be able to get some decent pics from the LF corner where the Padres warm up.
August 9, 2006 at 9:57 am
gates open at 5, I think Parking does the same. But I reccommend to you to park under the Van Wyck if you get down early enough.
August 9, 2006 at 10:16 am
also I think I’m going to take my very spottable green SD hat. that goes for any other people I spot out at shea. Just don’t bring your Dominican Republic flag or else I’ll never be able to spot you since it’s Pedro pitching tonight
