Good call, Nick. It would be great to see Barfield come into this spring and just claim the job beyond a shadow of a doubt. It was awesome to see how Khalil did so to such an extent Ordonez walked out of camp!

I’d rather see Barfield, too. Maybe it’ll be like a Rey Ordonez/Khalil Greene situation.

Man, the more I think about it — ugh. Bellhorn is just really brutal.

Yeah, but K’s don’t scare “Moneyball” or “Sabremetric” guys. They don’t think they’re any worse, maybe better, than any other sort of out, and Bellhorn gets on base even if he does K a lot. Personally, I’d rather just see what Barfield can do, but I guess it’s prudent to have some other options.

Bellhorn -- yuck. The guy was so awful last year. He has some terrible ABs, and strikes out wayyyy too much for someone who's not a power hitter.

I think 2B is Bellhorn's to lose, but I think he will lose it in July to Barfield. Paul R. and I talked extensively today, I would not be surprised to see Klesko headed to the AL (Boston?) in an attempt to revive his career.

Bellhorn is a "Moneyball" favorite. That signing has Sandy Alderson written all over it. The Bellhorn-Hill-Barfield competition should be a lot more interesting than the overhyped Ordonez-Vazquez-Greene SS battle of Spring Training 2004.

PM, was that Klesko comment a joke? Right now it doesn’t look like he will play anywhere.

Bellhorn is potentially a great pickup as he’s had good even years and horrendous odd years since 2002. Hopefully this will continue. Sikorski had good stats in Japan (and he designs great helocopters) and relievers are always up and down so it may work out.

Towers has certainly been busy the last week or so, maybe he can make one more high-profile move to fill their last hole — maybe Bengie Molina?
