This is pretty much how Frank Robby has operated all season, especially in the second half. He pulled his starter in the first about a week ago after 27 pitches and a run or two.

If Robinson doesn't like what he sees at any point, he makes changes. It worked in the Padres favor last night, because he essentially used all his pitchers, and Rauch had to win it or lose it.

For the most part, Robinson has won this year with nothing, and I think he has done one of the two or three best managing jobs in the league.

It's also nice to see such a win move the Padres' odds of winning their division to 97.68842. Teams with better odds of winning their division? The Cardinals who have already clinched. That's it. Beautiful.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I had a similar experience. I had gone out to dinner with my girlfriend. We got back kind of late, but in the process of shutting down my computer, I snuck at peek at the score. I knew they were losing 3-0 earlier in the game from checking on my phone while I was out, and, given their offense, was not expecting anything. It took a bit to really absorb what I was looking at. Because it was in extra-innings, the 9th looked like the 6th, with the early inning pushed off the scoring line. Then it sunk in: 5 in the bottom of the 9th, 3 in the bottom of the 12th to win it.

Today is another big game if we want this to stay distant, and hope somehow the offense starts clicking again. A win, regardless of the next series, does give them a little bit of momentum. A loss stunts whatever momentum they had before hitting the road.

We'll see what happens, but a Padre win and an SF loss puts the number down to 8.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

I went to bed last night at midnight -- I'm one of those rare East Coast Pads fans -- with the Pads down 5-0 in the sixth. I was a little pissed off, but hopeful that they could avoid the sweep today.
When I woke up, I did not immediately torture myself by watching ESPN or checking the 'net -- figuring they lost.
My God -- I can't believe they won. Say what you want about how up and down it's been this year, but the Pads have something a lot of other teams don't have -- guys that hit in the clutch. I would take Greene, Giles or Hernandez with the game on the line anytime!
Now, if this game could just develop into a little momentum, we'd be all set.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
