Yeah, Nevin has sucked. I don’t see how anyone can say he hasn’t.

Ponson sucks too. But this deal is all about getting rid of Nevin and giving his time to Nady.

Nevin hasn't merely been below his normal standards. He has been lousy. He has a negative MLVr. He has a Rate2 below 100. That means he's been a below average hitter and a below average defensive first baseman. The latter is reasonable because some of the first basemen have to be below average, but no first baseman should be a below average hitter. That's crap.

I'm not so sure about the division. Unbelievably there are still three teams within seven games of the Padres. We're now 28-42 in months other than May. That's an even .400 winning percentage.

Another loss, BTW. This horseshit team is STILL gonna end up in the postseason, where anything can happen. I just hope they don't embarrass themselves on the national stage the way they are currently embarrassing themselves.

Nevin was not a good hitter LAST year, either.
He cleared 100 RBI (barely), but a good hitter drives in 130+ hitting behind Loretta and Giles.
He’s 34, so if you’re waiting for him to “come out of his slump” it ain’t gonna happen.

There are currently 28 first baseman in MLB who have at least 250 PA this year. Phil is #28 in OPS:

he HAS NOT played poorly. His hitting has been below the standard that Nevin has set for himself, that is true.

Nevin is hurting the team more by his displacement of a younger, cheaper, and better player in the lineup (Nady) than with poor play. Although he HAS generally played poorly this season.

how is Nevin hurting the team? he is hitting about as well as anyone else is right now. He has pulled off some really nice plays defensively.
