From The AP: To make room for RHP Pedro Astacio, the Padres designated pitcher Brian Falkenborg for assignment. Falkenborg was winless with an 8.18 in 10 appearances. ... Manager Bruce Bochy said nothing has been determined about RHP Adam Eaton after he comes back from a strained right middle finger. "We're probably going to have him do some bullpen, then a simulated game, and then maybe a rehab start," Bochy said. "It's not etched in stone, if he has a good simulated game." ... With 418th saves, Trevor Hoffman is six behind John Franco (424) for second place on baseball's career list. ... RHP Paul Quantrill recorded his first NL win since Sept. 21, 2003, while with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

From today's Portland Beavers' email ...

Loretta to the Beavers: According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Padres second baseman Mark Loretta will join the Beavers on an injury-rehab assignment immediately after the All-Star break in Tacoma. Loretta injured his left thumb on a head-first dive into first base on May 17th in Atlanta, necessitating surgery. The two-time Padres Most Valuable Player has recovered quicker than many thought he would, and he's eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday, July 19th.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
